Mr B in Vegas....the Story

Well Kids, just a little 120 hour diary of my trip to Vegas. Let me preface it by saying that it was one of the most successful trips to Lost Wages Nevada I've ever had. I alloted a grand of cash just to get started, but FORGOT my money clip on my counter @ my apartment before even leaving Minneapolis. I had $200 in a stowaway pocket of my carryon and that's it.

Thurs Apr 7, 6:45AM

Arrived @ McCarren airport 45 minutes ahead of schedule, got to Imperial Palace 4 hours before I could actually check in to hotel @ 11am. Sat down with my $200 to play 'the Jack' at the best rules on the strip.

4 hours later, and $5000 larger, I checked into my room. Ran over to Bellagio for a $250+30 satellite for the $2500 event the same day. Lost a heads up match to a complete Choad who was all in on every hand. I was a 10:1 underdog and doubled up 3 times before he got lucky. He was so scared of me, that I offered him a deal of $800 bucks to just walk away. Frankly, I felt sorry for him. He just came with his friends, and was so down in the hole, $800 wouldn't make a difference!!!

At any rate, he finally got lucky--having me covered by $200 in a set over set hand (999 vs 888) and I walked back to IP.

Took a 4 or 5 hour nap, ate. Didn't sleep the night before and had 4am red eye wake up call night before

7pm

With $5200 on me, I met up with some friends who just landed and went to a few places before heading to NY NY for Coyote Ugly. Those were some of the prettiest ugly college girls I've ever seen. :-)

10:30pm

Mr B was 'wrecked'. I was like the Titanic--Loaded up with liquid, and going under quickly. As we were leaving (and NO I wasn't thrown out for giving free breast exams) I stumbled down the last 5-8 steps of the escalator to the main floor. My friends & I got a cab, but we should have gotten a stretcher, because my left knee was 3 times the size of the right one the next morning.

I had 1 too many, then 3 more drinks before calling it a night. I know, 10:30 doesn't sound like a night, but I was soooooo Canadian (bombed) that I had to give my buddies my room key just so they could find out where I was staying. They actually had to take the key to the front desk, and clock it in so they could find which room I was staying in!!!!!!

After 3 hours of drinking water, and remaining awake (the only true way to avoid the hangover) I finally crashed.

Fri Apr 8, 9:30AM

Friday, when I woke up, i looked at my knee, and thought I was going to the hospital. Fortunately, Imperial Palace has a hospital triage on 8th floor. Severely bruised knee cap, lost about a pint of blood, but nothing I couldn't recover from.

5pm....

Finally made it out of my room. Swore off alcohol til Swez gets remarried, and hit the casino floor. Friends wanted to go 'clubbin' but I told them somebody already did that to my knee the last night.

Hit Imperial for $300 more, then proceeded to the Mirage to play some Poker. I had $5200 total, because evidently, I spent $300 on the bar and assorted things. From there, is was something magical.

I put down $300 on a $2/5 No liimit table, and walked out with another $850. Took a few hours, but I love drunk Californians...because they are too agressive, and only there for one more day so they feel the need to risk their entire bankrolls in one sitting.

Sat April 9 3am

Went to bed. Finally got some non-alcoholic sleep.

2pm

Did the standard $225 hit in the 'Palace' putting me at about $6075. It could actually have been more, because I've paid for meals, etc. out of this the whole weekend without keeping good track.

Mosied over to the Bellagio for a Satellite $150+30 and got heads up again vs an 'old hack'. This guy offered me a deal, but considering that I knocked out all 8 of the other competitors, there was no deal to be found. Hardest fought 1 hour heads up I've had in a year, but lost.

6 pm

Took out all of my aggressions on the IP for another $300....this is just too funny. Ate, took my $6195 over to the Mirage…again, and pulled another $500 out of them.

Sunday April 10 Midnight

Friends called me and informed me that there was a NEW poker room @ MGM grand, just 2 weeks old. SO, I went over there, and met up with about $1100 from a GREAT game. Granted the poker room was very POORLY run, still, lots of Californians. Gosh I can’t wait to move there. They just hand you their money.

5am back to Hotel for sleep

3pm

With $7700 in hand, I was just having a blast. Snagged $300 out of IP, then went out with boys to Harrah’s Cabana area. About 7pm

9:30 eat @ Samba’s (brazilian barbeque) and then on to Harrah’s cabana area. Partied til Midnight, then hit IP poker room. Pulled $450 more out of there, and walked away DONE playing with $7850 in hand.

Monday, slept, played break even black jack til the plane left, and that was that.

I bring you this story after 4 good hours of sleep after the most tumultous flight/landing I've had in years. We had COMPANY pictures today, and I looked like the gutter that I crawled out of. Hope they are good with airbrushing....maybe they can brush my whole face out of the picture entirely.

:-) More, when I've had sleep. :-)

Well my boy, if I tracked with you on this journey correctly, looks like you took in $200.00 as a your stake and whaled out with $7850 + misc out of pocket expenses you really cannot account for.

"Swore off alcohol til Swez gets remarried"...
Commendable, as it is likely to be a long while mang. I can make that bet with you as well. I swore off the sauce a while back and am willing to wager my staying power... save for a cool pop or 2, on a hot day, (perhaps not) over you getting married before I do and staying off the sauce.

Anyone have a few fav non-alc beers that taste like the real thing, but no Alcohol content above 1.5%? O'Douls'... not a chance. Not sure what Camel wizz tastes like, but that's the closest I have come to what I consider kin to Camel Wizz. Bud Light comes close, but has more alcohol in it. (that's out for sure)

Am glad you are home and happy... need to have a look at that knee before you have more problems later. Don't procrastinate on it. Having chronic knee problems is no fun. I can tell ya that from experience.

PS Well done... fleesing Vegas is a good thing now that gaming has learned that card watching (counting) is not cheating or an ill-eagle.

sorry I could not make it, something came up on wed evening... Sounds like you were in no condition to get on a bike, or really walk by one.

Most people from here seem to leave a deposit everytime they go to vegas. But these are the same people that simply decide to go, pack a bag in 10 min and hit the road. I realize that I know nothing about gambling and like my money too much so I have not been there more then once. You story reminds me of my trip there a few years ago with my rugby team, I think we covered it already.

Someone once asked me why women don't gamble as much as men do and I gave the commonsensical reply that we don't have as much money. That was a true but incomplete answer. In fact, women's total instinct for gambling is satisfied by marriage

Hey mang

No problem. I'd have definitely ditched Coyote Pretty for some biking, as I have no business being in a bar. Unfortunately, the crowd I hung with likes the drinky, drinky.

I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't lived it. What's crazy is that I had to STOP @ $5000 because I was on a $5/500 table, and didn't want to get booted off. Probably could have hammered a couple more grand out of that thing as I was by myself, mostly, and the dealer didn't get off til 2pm. If I didn't care, I could have made more. Just didn't want to get kicked out of my own hotel.

Personally, when I go to Lost Wages, I don't ordinarily drink that much. My poker buddies love to party, and so I was just along for the ride.

Basically, I flop from table to table on Jack, but don't stay too long as I don't want to be a marked man. I've been marked once before, and trust me, getting my knee 'clubbed' by casino security would be nothing compared to what happened to me last time. So long as I really don't hurt 'em, Hammer can keep playing.

What I do in a casino is not really gambling, more of a 'systematic' manipulation of independent variables resulting in derandomizing random variables. Poker, is 75% skill and 25% luck. Jack is 6 months of work perfecting the 'system' and 6 years of experience.

At any rate, I'll be trying to make lightning strike twice in May...then the World Series sat's in June. I have no interest paying $10,000 to get into an event that'll likely have 7,000 entrants...but have no problem forking over $1000 in a satellite to have a shot at taking out 9 other guys.

We'll catch you next trip.

SWEZ

By the time I have another beverage buffet like last Thursday, you'll be on your 4th wife, and Elizabeth Taylor be on 11th...or is she already there yet.
