Any thoughts on this amp? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=64572&item=5767102774&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW Replies (11) lessismorespl on 04/11/2005 21:34:52 Honestly, I have not been impressed w/ Rockford Fosgate's equipment for the last 2 or 3 years. I really miss the amps from back in 98, 99, and 00, after that, in my opinion, they kind of fell off, around the same time they started selling in retail chains. UKinstaller on 04/11/2005 23:37:47 yeah i used to have a punch 800a2. those amps were AWESOME. rockford really doesn't make stuff like they used to. -UK MrBrownstone on 04/12/2005 12:46:20 Selling in retail chains hasn't affected the quality of their product in any way. Basically, they are better now than they've ever been. Power, price, value, all better. It's just that car audio shops have been bashing them because they can no longer charge OVER retail for a commodity that BBuy is selling for a discount. I challenge ANYONE to find an amplifier from 1997 or before that's better than ANY comparably priced amplifier after 1997. I've been doing this for 14 years, and I wouldn't even kid myself. We used the BD 1000 (first generation) in like 2000 and hit mid 150s with 2 HCCA 15s. One Amp per sub. I think a lot of people have gotten involved in brand bashing because of the best buy thing. MTX and Alpine were not ruined by Circuit City, but their reputation with independent retailers was affected. Look at the product, not the hype. RF's middle lines and TOL products are some of the best out there. AND, best performers in the highest levels of competition the past few years. ttocs on 04/12/2005 14:45:14 I am in that crowd of bashing ANYTHING that BBY sells, just because of the experience I had there while working. I could live with the pwr that RF supplies, but I think they have looked ugly for years now.... There are just so many other brands that I like before RF, but I do not hate them. MrBrownstone on 04/12/2005 14:50:48 Agreed They are ugly MF's no doubt. lessismorespl on 04/12/2005 20:13:43 I'm not bashing them either, I've been doing this since age 17, like 23 yrs now, I remember back in mid-late 90's(they were still kinda ugly then, they put out some amps that were pure power houses and were like tanks, you run them till your eyes were about to pop out of your head. But I have always been kind of a big MTX fan, I was running MTX in SPL outlaw comps since the Terminator series, I still have some of the Blue Thunder Pro amps and the Blue Thunder Extreme subs, I would put those amps up against several amps on the market today. I had a rep allow me to install and run one of the new Power Series 1000(Power T10001b) w/ one of the new 15's(Power Stage 2 ) and was not impressed, I thought the MTX 8500 15 and the 801D was not only louder, but sounded better. We all have our favorites, I swear by MXE and Eclipse Decks, MTX, JL, and Digital Designs subs, and MTX, JL, and Diamond Audio amps. I have hands on experience w/ several manufacturer's products, and these are the ones I prefer. I will give RF some credit, they did set a world record this year, still a long ways to go in the season, but that is a big prop for them. I use to love RF amps and subs, I guess b/c they changed so much and I was hitting better numbers w/ different manufacturers, I lost faith in them. MTX has been selling retail at Circuit City since the Blue Thunder series(maybe longer), Circuit City use to sell the Blue Thunders, but not the Blue Thunder Pro amps or the Blue Thunder Extreme subs, also, they sell a completely different line of MTX amps and subs made specifically for them by Mitek Corp, I believe it called MXA amps and MXS & MZS subs. As for the Thunder amps and subs, you pretty much have to shop online or at car audio shops for them. ttocs on 04/12/2005 21:55:03 BLUE THUNDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do ya have any godfathers?? If so this must all be next to the pull out right? I am not making fun of you as I never had either of these subs but wanted them.. I have not paid attention to RF for some time, the George forman grill amps turned me off so bad that I have not even looked at them for a long time. I saw a pic today of some new ones and they did not look too bad. now if BBY would quit selling them I would consider buying them............. I know that the bby RF was close but not the same as the other rf. Is this still the case? lessismorespl on 04/13/2005 00:35:58 They are old, not as old as the Pyle Drivers, but from about 7-8 yrs ago. Pullouts, I did'nt think any one remembered them! I had an old Clarion cassette pullout, and I had a kit when I got my Pioneer cassette that hooked under the dash and you could just slide the whole unit off and back on. Those were the days back then, we would put the subs and amps in the box of the truck, if you had a car, the amps were so big it was hard to find a place to mount them. I do know that my old Blue Thunder Pro amps could stand toe2toe w/ many of the amps in it's class today, I even have an old Thunder225HO, I would like Mr Brownstone to show me a 2-channel amp today that is 1/2 ohm stable stereo and 1 ohm stable bridged, there are a few, but not in this price range. You cannot tell me that when company goes from limited production to mass producing that quality stays the same, that is the exact reason Mitek decided to make an entire line of amps and subs specifically for Circuit City, because the quality started suffering when the new thunder series amps came out(OVERHEATING, REMOTE LEAD WOULD SHORT AND THE AMP WOULD EITHER STAY ON OR NOT POWER UP, THE RCA INPUTS WOULD SHORT EASILY), that is why they made a new line that is specifically sold there, same w/ the subs, the 4000's, 6000's, and 8000's were not that great. The only manufacturer I have seen in the retail chains that did not suffer too much on quality was Alpine. Pioneer and Kenwood both suffered, that is why they came out w/ the Pioneer Premiere and Kenwood bought us the eXcelon, you do not see them at retail chains. another major problem w/ retail chains is the quality of customer service and the audio knowledge of the sales people, are you gonna tell me that Best Buy's and Circuit City's 16 yr old sales "kid" that does not even know the ohms law or even what the Theile Small Parameters are can give me good advice? He has to look on a chart to see what goes and fits where or to quote the specs....no thank you, I will stick to my car audio shops where you can go ask a question to get direct and correct answers, plus give great customer service. ttocs on 04/13/2005 14:03:30 I got ya beat. I had a blaupunkt pull out, code protection rocked! lessismorespl on 04/13/2005 14:28:35 I never was into any of the Blaupunkt stuff, back in the early 80's, the only place you could them was in MB's and BMW's, you special order them but they cost as much as Alpines back then and it really was not worth it, honestly, back then a cassette player was basically a cassette player. I still have one of the original Pioneer cassette Supertuners(the first series). Ya gonna laugh at this, I was thinking on putting it on ebay, I have a Kenwood in dash 8-track player.....now that is old school. MrBrownstone on 04/13/2005 16:15:28 Dudes I had one of the first Alpine pull-outs, and lemme tell ya, I'm glad they went to the detachable faceplate. It used to look like I was draggin around a motorcycle battery when I left the car. :-) Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
