ok guys im gonna venture into my first ported box here, this will be placed in the trunk of a 92 lumina.... i want maybe 1.75 cubic feet per sub and would like the the ports to come down the middle and have a divider in the middle. guess kinda like two ported boxes put together.... i just dont get the whole porting lengths and such... not sure how to calculate the lenght for certain freqs.. i want it tuned to around 35-40hz, does that sound right... i can figure out the rest of the box i can build sealed enclosures, want slot ports. somthing like this, just need the specs on the ports,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=50568&item=5766424152&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

here is a drawing i made that kind of shows what space i have to work with, not exact numbers, was out measuring at midnight, but all the numbers are probably short about an inch or so...

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/playa_jake2002/detail?.dir=/d9dd&.dnm=368d.jpg&.src=ph

one question i have is that the front speaker panel calls for 17.25" i know the speaker is not that big so i could probably get away with 16 or so but i still do not have that much space under the deck lid or under the trunk lid, will i have to make the front pannel on a slant, if so then im really going to need help on the ports.... please guys ineed lots of help here, box dont have to take up the whole trunk but i can use as much space as possible, the girlfriend dont use her trunk so we are good here... one again please help, thanx alot...

can some one check that third drawing, would an enclosure like that work, be just like the vented box on ebay but since i dont have enough height, can i just come off the front of the box and build kind of like an L shaped enclosure with the sub facing up but still have the ports in the middle face foward... does anybody see what im tryin to do, im horrible at drawing but im trying to get my point across as clear as possible, thanx for bearing with me guys, hope im not bothering too many ppl

check out the TL footprint, i guess with those dimensions u can put in such kinda enclosure.

yo victor i like the ideas of 4 and 6 that you posted, what can i do about the height tho, id like to build a box that will fit into the trunk with out having to assemble it in the trunk ya know what i mean, i suppose i could assemble in there but seems kinda hard, could you hook me up with some dimenosons for a set of 15 inch subs in those transmision line enclosures i listed? i sent ya a yahoo invite.

Yes Victor, those enclosure drawings are impressive. I have been toying around with getting a pair of CompVR 10s or 12s myself....and this box design just may be what drives me to get them. Oh, I also sent you an MSN invite. I hope that's cool :)

Sure i dont mind having anyone from CK on my budy list.. bvut i never received ur invite tho..

and I got pleanty of innovative designs with me,, but bad luck they are on paper.. i shall put all of them on once i get time to redraw them on the comp, i tried scanning them but they are a bit old so the lead lines have smugged and are not that clear..

Again,,,, it is an innovative design, but the sizes will depend on the kind of driver you use.. if they require bigger enclosures then this kinda desing will have a very big footprint.. probably will not accomotade in any saloon or hatchback..

but with moderate drivers wich require 1cf to 1.5 cf this shud do very good.

hey victory do ya think that drawing i made would work, L shaped box? if not can you maybe when you get some free time draw up a box that will work... would be great if i had more height to work with or smaller subs lol, but i dont... thanx alot/

compvr15s on 04/11/2005 21:53:19
ok i think this last box i designed might work the best

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/playa_jake2002/detail?.dir=/d9dd&.dnm=6728.jpg&.src=ph

that should work fine shouldnt it, then height will not be an issue, the other box i wanted wouldnt fit either cuz the width of the box would be too much with two ports in the center of the box, but if i use this other desing i utilize the depth of the box instead of the width or the height....

ssallstar598 on 04/12/2005 00:54:48
Victor - those are really nice box designs - any chance you could give me the specs for the L shaped one for 2 12' kicker cvrs?

Victor on 04/12/2005 01:10:38
Hey compvr here is a link to a problem i see with that design , thats how i see it, dunno if others wud agree.. but donot cancel out that option before others give in their input on my view i cud be wrong here..

I see cancellation instead of sound reinforcement..

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/victorginger/detail?.dir=6a70&.dnm=2f53.jpg&.src=ph

The sound waves from the sub and the port are in direction where they will act against each other, rather than working together..

I see nuthing wrong with the shape.. its just the port placement..

ok.. here is a better option just with a minor change in the same outline ...check it out..

hope that helps...

yea that looks great, could you help me with the port lengths now? if so thanx alot, if not thats ok too, her transmission is leaking, so the project may be a no go anyway, need to see if we can get it welded or patched up

Victor on 04/13/2005 00:51:23
Well... yes i could do that.. but i dont know the exact dimensions of your cars trunk,

Also kicker suggests a minimum of 3.0 cu.ft ported enclosure for a 15" compvr for SQL performance and a 5.0 cu.ft ported enclosure for SPL performance.

Also in the diagram u did, u have forgotten to mention the 3rd dimension. you have showed the height and depth , but u have forgotten to mention the width of the enclosure u designed along with the width of the trunk.

Please throw in all the dimensions, so that its easier to calculate ans sketch out a workable plan.

Hey dude.. u got one more problem... place where u are going to install the sub in the drawing u sent..

its only 7.5" tall and the mounting depth of the 15"compvr sub is 7.5".....lol.. u cant squeeze your sub between 2 sheets of wood, there has to be atleast 1/3rd the space of the mounting depth below the sub so that it can breathe easily..

Victor..

PS. I guess we will have to work on another design from the beginning, which we can on only after we have the exact dimensions of the trunk of ur car.

compvr15s on 04/13/2005 02:11:54
could we switch locations of the sub, maybe to the taller area of the L the one that is 15 inches tall. and then run the port out of the top area where i have the sub showing in the drawing.... those measurements i listed are pretty close, id say within an inch i guess if the volume of the box is a lil smaller thats ok but i really want to try ported for the comp vrs....

Victor on 04/13/2005 02:18:54
Ok.. I was redrawing a scaled diagram with the changes of the port, and while drawing i suddenly realised that before i put in the numbers i need to have a look at the mounting depth of the woofer, and i checked out on the kicker site.. and the result was sadenning like i said in the above post,..

Anyways i finished the drawing so that u can see it and try and understand and figure out that there are so many things we need to keep in mind before starting the project..

Like swez say's "A project well planned, is a project that will succeed."

here is the link to the drawing i made, have a look, its a scaled diagram, its a bit rough tho can be finished much better.

Also while looking at the diagram try and learn how to draw things to better scale and how to visualise a plan, section, how to use thicker and thinner lines as per requirement..

I know its not a necessity to learn all that.. but its very useful in presenting a drawing which can be easily understood. and if u got a drawing that is easy to interpret it will be very useful while u work on the project..

here is the drawing..

Hope that helps..

That wont be possible either.. cause how will u fit a 15" sub on a 15" board...??

also u will need space of another 2-3/4" to begin the port opening into the chamber..

so i guess we will have to come up with a different plan itself.. also what i feel is that installing the sub on a slant board would be one of the very few options here..

Victor..

PS.
If u are on msn or yahoo.. message me now so that we can chat there.. its much faster..

compvr15s on 04/13/2005 02:37:42
what program are you using, ive just been fooling around in ms paint, i could probably do alot better on a moe sofistacated program... that last one you came up with looks nice, i see what your saying about mounting depth, i didnt even think about that cuz of the way i was drawing demensions are out of size. by chance are you on any of the chat programs now? yahoo, msn??? if so maybe we can figure out this out better. sorry for waisting time.... i think if i understood porting i could get this in a pinch.

Victor on 04/13/2005 02:50:23
well... that diagram u just was was done in MSpaint too.. its just a matter of visualising the dimensions and the space. its easier for me cause i am an architect , u can do it too but will need to do lots of drawings and 3'D sketches to learn that..

i am on yahoo.. my id is victorginger, and on msn is victorexports@hotmail.com

what is ur id..??
