For some reason my head unit started cutting out (interior speakers only) when i hit bumps, then it would turn back on. Well after doing that for awhile, it has finally cut out all together. It powers up, the subs work, but the interiors dont. I swapped head units w/ my brothers and his worked fine in my car. So ... Question #1 .. does anyone know what went out on my HU. I tried to replace the 15A fuse, didnt do anything. (remember, the subs still work, and it powers up) Question #2 .. Could i possibly run my interiors through an Amp via the RCAs. I currently have 2 amps hooked up. Each runs a 15" sub. I could run both of them off one amp, and have one left over to run my interiors. Its a kenwood KAC-729. Basically a "600W" max output amp, more along the lines of 250 RMS. Can I run interiors off of this. And can i run interiors and subs simultaneoulsy off one set of RCAs? Black_Rob on 04/10/2005 17:21:34 HU: JVC KD-LH300 Car: 1992 Honda Accord Amps: 2 Kenwood KAC-829s (said 729 on accident before) Subs: 2 15" MTX 6000 --The HU will power on. --The subs will work fine, but the interior speakers will not work. --When I swapped HU's with my brothers, his worked fine in my car. --When I put mine in his, it blew his Radio Fuse. I checked the fuse in my car under the hood, but the only one there was a 7.5A that said "radio back-up". It was still working fine. I'd like to know if i fried something inside the unit. Its really odd. It (the interior sound) had been cutting out from time to time when i hit bumps, then it went out for good yesterday. RCAs still work fine. What kind of amp do i need to run my 4 interior speakers through my RCAs, or would you have to hook up the amp w/ speaker level inputs? If you can use RCAs, is it possible to hook up 3 amps at once. Right now I have 2, (one L-chan, one R-chan). Tried to hook up my speaker through the amp i have now, and it only pushed through the bass basically. Im hoping i can either fix the problem and get the speaker outputs to work on the HU, or somehow run the sound through the RCA's via a cheap wal-mart amp or something. Black_Rob on 04/10/2005 17:42:26 SORRY, wrong HU label. should be JVC KD-LH3100 lessismorespl on 04/10/2005 21:32:29 JVC units are notorious for shorting out RCA's and the internal amp going out. That is most likely the problem. You can try running a 2 or 4 channel amp on the preouts, this will tell you whether it is the internal amp. Try that and hopefully it works until you can find a better HU. ttocs on 04/10/2005 21:58:41 so what inputs are you using for the amps? lessismorespl on 04/10/2005 22:02:29 Never thought of that THINK........if you are using the amps RCA outputs rather than the RCA inputs, that could cause some major problems, somewhat like the problems you have mentioned......good point "ttocs" GRIN UKinstaller on 04/11/2005 00:48:05 sounds like you have a speaker grounding out. have you ever replaced the factory speakers?? if the terminals fell off and are touching metal, it will cause the highs to cut off. this could explain the bumping and cutting off. did you put the radio in yourself?? try cutting each speaker wire on the back of the radio one at a time. if you cut a wire and the sound comes back on, you have a speaker grounding out. -UK Black_Rob on 04/11/2005 01:48:01 I think there is some confusion here. The HU has one set of RCA outputs. I have run one set from the HU to my 2 amps. My amps have the single-channel option, so I could run 2 amps off one set of RCAs. The INTERIOR speakers are the ones that cut out. The subs/amp/rca's still work fine. The bass is hittin normal, just no vocals, haha. Its like constant Techno music (NOOO!) lol. My initial thought was that a speaker was cutting out. However, i put my brother's HU in my car, and the speakers worked fine. So it couldnt be a short. I guess my HU is messed up inside somehow, i just dont understand how it can still power up and put out sound to the RCAs. Therefore, if i cant fix the speaker outputs, I was trying to figure out a way around it. Can i run my interior speakers through my RCA's somehow? Im guessing i would need a low watt 4 channel amp or somethin. WHAT A MESS !!! Thanks guys. compvr15s on 04/11/2005 04:14:00 if i was you, id keep one of the kenwoods you have now, to run front speakers, get a good set of comps for the doors, or kick panels which ever you have/prefer... and try selling the other 2 channel amp and buy a class d mono amp for your subs, a good 500-600 watt amp will power those mtx subs good.... if you can sell your other amp use that money towards the class d amp, should easy find one under 200 dollars... then run you pre outs to each amp, id use two sets, one from your sub out and the other from the front out.... as for rear speakers, not really necesarry, if you have 100+ watts to power the front comps you are gonna ge major sound from them, but can always try running the rear speakers off the head unit... that that dont work, could wire your left speakers in parellel to one channel of the 829 and then do the same with the right side, wont be able to fade from front to rear but will still have balance from left to right.... this last option may not be very suitable for you, you will have to get resistors to block the freqs you dont want, id say put you 2channel amp on full range and then get 80-100hz bass blocks for the back speaks and 80hz bass blocks for the front speakers...does this make any sense to you or did i just spin you faster in circles.... if so just disregard this post.... ttocs on 04/11/2005 18:27:57 wait, before we start adding pieces in to try and fix what we don't understand, lets fix it first.... What you described is called daisy chaining amps. You have ran one set of rca's to amp #1(sub or highs?), and then from the output of amp #1 you have an rca going to amp #2, right? If this is the case then I do not understand why it worked when you replaced the head unit(HU). Try switching the rca from the deck to amp #1, to amp #2 and see what happens... Black_Rob on 04/11/2005 21:34:18 Ok still confusion going on here. My subs work fine. My interior speakers Are/Were not hooked up with an amp. The HU will not play sound through the normal gray/white/purple/green(etc) wires. Subs work fine. The sub hook up, is ONE RCA line coming out of the RCA outputs. The red plug into one amp, and the black into the other amp. So right now i have SUBS and no interiors. Someone suggested the internal amp in the HU blew (i dont know). I am trying to find an alternate way to get normal sound to my 6.5" interior speakers. The normal line outputs dont work. So i figured, since the RCA's are putting out bass, will they put out vocals? Black_Rob on 04/11/2005 21:38:04 FURTHERMORE, lol .... This is one of the amps that i own and could use ... can 6.5" interiors be hooked up to this amp somehow ?? http://www.bizrate.com/marketplace/product_info/details__cat_id--11820000,prod_id--6662045.html ttocs on 04/12/2005 14:48:12 ok, I see now. More then likely you just have a speaker that has shorted or grounded out somewhere. When this happens the deck shuts off all the speakers on the internal amp to keep it from damage. Pull the radio out of the car. Disconnect each speaker wire one at a time with the radio on. If nothing happens then reconnect it and try another. When you cut the wire that was grounded er shorted all the rest should start playing. Black_Rob on 04/12/2005 16:19:19 Ok, i tried that and it still would not. Actually what i did was just disconnect ALL of the speakers. Then i bypassed the wiring harness and tried to hook up a house speaker to each of the speaker outputs. Still no sound. When i put my HU in my brothers car, it blew his radio fuse. When i put his HU in my car, my speakers and everything worked fine. Do you think i blew the internal amp in my HU? Is it possible to blow the internal amp and still have the RCA outputs work and faceplate power up and everything? ttocs on 04/12/2005 21:56:40 does it smell like smoke? If everyone elses stuff works in there and it does not work in theirs then i would say it is the internal amp. You could have it bench tested at a local shop to be sure. Black_Rob on 04/20/2005 21:30:57 The head unit retails at over $300. Would it be worth it to fix the internal amp? Also, i have line out jacks. If those work, how could i run my interiors through those? ttocs on 04/21/2005 10:58:25 you would need an amp to run speakers off of the rca's . If it is worth it to fix is up to you, could be $50-100... Black_Rob on 04/21/2005 16:01:12 What kind of amp would i need to run the interiors off of. If I can get something cheap, I'll just do that rather than getting the HU fixed. Can you suggest any amps under say $100? Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
