this box makes roadmaster 8"s sound like decent 12"s

This is what I wrote to powerlifter a few days back...

""hey PL i got a nice Horn loaded design to share with you.. will have to make a few changes tho cause this design was basically meant for 2 x 8"'s and 2 x 10"'s but can work out for 2 x 12"'s.

You may not need to have a 15" or a 18" sub to loose on SQ.. Instead 2 brahma or RE XXX 12" wud do wonders.. i can bet that any 2 of those in this enclosure will give you 160+ db even on its worst day ...

I had made one with 2 blau 10" velocity series 400wrms subs with an alpine MRD-1000 and they scored a whooping 143.07 db, which is unnatural for such subs to reach.

here is the over view and the construction for 8"s and 10"s if you are interested then we can together formulate for the 12" subs...

Here's a post for modifications to be done for 12" subs..

PS.....

You have to be extremely good at wood working if you wanna make this box, a slight deviation from the angles or a minor change in size, small leaks and poor joints will make your beautiful subs sound crap..

Ok my cousin has been making boxes and entering and somtimes winning stereo comps. for years you think if i can get him to make a box like this with two Audiobahn 12" sound Q's that this would sound good and get good db that i could enter a comp. myself ?

Victor on 04/10/2005 04:07:57
With those Audiobahns 12" sound Q's and a good strong amp you will get pleanty of SPL, it wont be as clean as a sealed enclosure, but since you are looking for SPL its ok if you loose some SQ here.

You can look at a mark of 140db +/- 5db depending on the cabin gain of your car.

Once again i would like to remind you, dont attempt making this if you are not experienced at wood working.

Also see to it that you eliminate all the rattles while fixing the sub in the enclosure, this enclosure works on acoustical amplification of sound, so whatever sound is produced inside the chamber is amplified, so along with the bass the distortion also will be amplified.

I suggest do not use this kind of enclosure without a sub-sonic filter, and keep good watch over your gain controls, you cud unload the sub if you are too wild at the gain and the bass-boosts.

Hope that helps...
