Hi there, I don't know if this is against CK policy to ask but I have two questions.

1) What wiring kit shouild I get for an Amp that either 300 or 450 watt RMS?

2) Do you guys know anywhere where those kits are relatively cheap?

In that amp range, a #8 gage kit will do the job. If you plan on adding a 2nd amp later for mids/highs, better go for a #4 kit. (plan ahead)

E-bay has some pretty good deals on wiring kits. Don't have to go hog wild on the price tag either. Street Wires, Stinger, Monster Cables or Knukonceptz all make fine wiring kits. Yes, you can buy kits at local audio shops too. But they usually come with a hefty markup if you don't buy other things from them as well. Browse the Bay for a few and run it by the baord for comments if you wish. (this is not against policy) We can share this kind of info w/o issues.

These are the auctions I found, you mind telling me if they are any good? It seems like with shipping and all that, its only a few bucks cheaper then buying it separately at some store.

....hehehehehehe....

CK sure is a happening place...

lol...

Dave we need to clear up the policy issues, or u will have to write ( this is against the policy ) or ( this is not against the policy ) everytime something or the other comes up..

one thing is for sure that It wud be tough to control sales on CK if allowed partially.. I mean either it shud be allowed full fledged or not allowed completely...

If CK does allow transaction of audio goods then we should collect a fixed amount per transaction to keep the site running.

This will have both the +ve and the -ve aspect, lets see the positive site first..

Members will benefit from selling and buying, so will CK and there will be overall economic growth.

now the -ve side. The very basis of CK will be modified, and any dumb guy wud come and try to sell crappy stuff, may be even try to mess up with the transactions etc..Also it will be tough to keep a watch on all the transactions and deal with warranty, replacement, repair, undelivered and other issues..

CK will become a commercial site and no longer a place where ideas are born. The forum will just remain a small part of a bigger buying and selling site.

Also the work and money that would go into setting up such a site could be a big hassel for Walt.

Also the kind of members that the site will then attract will only be interested in looking at dazzling products and not those real audiophiles that are interested in some serious car audio.

The whole atmosphere around here on CK will change..

Whatever the policy is, or whatever modifications are made, we should atleast post them up with a permanent link on the home page, so that it becomes easier for all of us.

My 2 paisa....

hehehe ( thats a 100 paisa = 1 INR, indian currency.. lol.. saw someone write my 2 cents, and hence)

wow, it's kinda crazy that one comment has sparked this debate, I am relatively new to CK and I guess I was directly involved in the incident but strangely enough, my take on this subject is that it should just not be allowed. This site, in its current state is a extremely helpful resource of audio knowledge and people, and as Victor points out, people trying to make money will flock here if it becomes commercial.

Pretty much my opinion is just keep things the way they are because it is a wonderful site with wonderful people.

Agreed with what i have learned from the short time i have been here is amazing and very helpfull if sales are allowed then things will be crazy because the ppl trying to sell others things will say anything to convince others to buy and thats no good its one thing to have ppl give their take on something its another to have ppl out to just sell stuff

this place rocks wouldn't wanna see it change like that
just my input on the whole thing

Am beginning to see a trend here and basically, CK is an info site. That's what we do best. Selling on the site can be a potential mess as we just don't have a system in place to manage it.

As for rules and guidelines on the site, they are pretty simple and easy to maintain.

1. NO SPAMMING ALLOWED.... PERIOD
2. Be polite and direct as possible on questions/answers
3. Sharing links to products, specs & buying locations are fine
4. Share knowledge base with others
5. CK is a PG rated site... forget the street slang here please

Have inquired to Walt (site Admins) about an option to intstall a Buy/Sell/Swap link in the site. To date, I have not heard his comments on the matter. Until he makes a decision, the point is moot.

PS Victor.... Chill out mang! LOL We are an info site. I don't think we need to make a bunch of complex rules here. (most will not read them anyway) Have been on this site for 5 years. It's been working fine as is. "If it ain't broke... why fix it" ?

I agree, whether CK makes money off the sales or not, it would become a big mess for the administrator(I take it his name is Walt). We would end up having people selling substandard equipment, there would people talking down other products to make their product look more inviting, and we would have the far too common scam artist trying to sell garbage. I have been into car audio for over 20 years, have been on the internet for well over 10 years, and I would like to share some of the experiences I have seen pertaining to car audio on the internet and in other forums.

I have seen JL Audio 500/1's and 1000/1's w/ unauthorized serials, and substandard boards sold to unsuspecting buyers. I deal w/ a shop that is the exclusive dealer in the state for JL and we seen a few of these come through the shop, people felt they were not performing the way they should, the boards and inner components were not even JL authorized parts, the soldering was second rate, which suggest some-one came across the idea of interchanging parts. You must remember, it is not hard nor exspensive to purchase lots of damaged equipment, anyone w/ basic electronics experience or training can do some second rate repairs, buy secodn rate substandard parts and repair a high end amp and resell it as is.
I have seen car audio online stores come and go, and know personally over 25 people that were attracted to the unbeliebable low prices, and ended up with nothing but credit cards charges on their credit card. As soon as the site was discovered, it dissappeared. There is also a scam known as "matrix" where they offer for example, a JL Audio W7 for $200, then send you a sheet of instructions for the "matrix scam" to get the product for free. This matrix scam seldom works and is illegal.
Many resellers that sell online are more preditor like than salesman like, they use drop shippers, so they seldom even see what is being sold, in many cases the serials are altered to prevent tracing the source of the equipment and the manufacturer will not touch it when it comes to warranty.
Here is alink that kind of breaks it down: http://www.installer.com/tech/buying.html
IMHO If we begin to allow buy/sell/swap, we will lose the quality of the opinions and experiences of various car audio products. People will talk something up just for the sole purpose to make it more inviting than the next product. What I would like to see is people's hands on experiences w/ various products, their experiences w/ the manufacturer's customer service, how they feel the equipment performs, and give honest insight on how some online stores do business. I seldom buy online, but when I do I prefer to deal w/ less than a handful of sites, which are: Crutchfield, Car Domain, Woofers Etc., Sonicelectronix, and Online Car Stereo. I have always had good experiences w/ these sites and they have been around for years.
My opinion on amp kits, you can buy them off ebay, but they kill you on shipping, so it is often not worth a few dollars savings and 3-5 days wait. Many respectable car audio shops will sell you an amp kit for right about the same price. If you are not picky(like me), you can go to Walmart, Miejers, even some car parts chains(Autozone, Pep Boys, Advanced Auto) and buy kits for very reasonable prices. You can get a 4 ga kit from Walmart for about $25 USD, you may have to buy a fuse w/ higher amp ratings, but for $25 you can't beat the price. I prefer Streetwires, Knukonceptz, Stinger, and dB Link. they all make good quality cable and accessories. You can buy the Knukonceptz direct from the website for a real good price; here is the link:
http://www.knukonceptz.com/productMaster.cfm?Category=Amp%20Installation%20Kits
Sorry to drag this out, but I really do not want to see this forum full of spammers and scammers. It would be nice to have a review section and possibly let us use some basic HTML in our post, it would come in handy for links and adding bold to ephasize comments. Just soemthing to think about.

will the knukonceptz basic 4 gauge kit that sells for 18 dollars be suffienct for my purpose? the amp is 450 RMS

lessismorespl on 04/10/2005 13:45:07
Yes, it would work fine. You would also have the option of installing a distribution block and running another amp if you ever decide to do so.
