its a 900 amp battery roughly and im short on cash right now so i cant buy a bigger alt/BIG 3 upgrade for my system but i had a deep cycle battery laying around so im going to use that for now and charge it - about how long until it dies each time? Replies (5) swez on 04/8/2005 14:23:54 Many variables here... how strong is the load pull off the BAT? Is the BAT new or been sitting around a while and on its last legs? However, when the voltage in the BAT drops below amplifiers needs, it can draw excess current, damage the amp or BAT. Not a good thing here. Do you really want to take that gamble? Hopefully, you have a decent ALT to keep that BAT charged adequately and a way to monitor same. (voltage gage or meter) Once a system drops below ~10.5 volts, the car is gonna shut down soon. Better know where the voltage is at all times. In short, get it done right the first time and enjoy the process. Swez ssallstar598 on 04/8/2005 21:58:28 my bad - its a JBL b600.1 amp (def dont wanna mess it up) is there any way i can get a voltage meter installed in the cabin? swez on 04/9/2005 01:20:12 You can get voltage readings off the cigarette lighter. There are plug in models at most decent auto parts chains. One you can read in the dark, is a good option. Some are LED lights, others are displays. Have a look around at Pep Boys, Auto Zone or NAPA. Swez lessismorespl on 04/9/2005 08:38:27 Definately want to keep that voltage above 10.5, actually as a rile of thumb in car audio, above 12.5, and on avg. 13.8 is what a car stays at. When you say 900 amps, is that cranking amps or cold cranking amps? What is the RC of the battery? A good battery is fairly inexspensive, an Optima Red Top 800 CA 1000 CCA 110 RC will run you about $125-$145 w/ exchange. I use the Red Top as my main battery and have a Yellow Top I use in my trunk when I compete. ssallstar598 on 04/9/2005 18:10:45 i believe that is cold cranking (the 900) - its a yellow top Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
