kicker gives pretty easy instructions on how to build boxes for thier subs, even with little box building skills it can be easilly done... if i remember right they even give port lengths, so no calculations are needed, just cut boards to listed specs and then construct.... im sure we can walk you through, which will save you lots of money. you will like the bass output from the cvrs in either enclosure, but ofcouse it will be a tad louder and deeper by going ported...just remember sub sonic filters are needed when going ported, so your subs do not play below port freq. if this is not done your subs will go to junk.... wish you were looking a few months ago, i had a dual ported box for my solo L7s, could have easily just made a new face board and everything would have been gravy... but i threw it away because i no longer needed it and had the space. would have just gave it to you, alls you woulda had to pay was shipping....

Do you have any good cabinate makers in your area to do this for you? Another option would be a good audio shop with a guy who knows how to build a quality box.

Sealed boxes give better power handling and tighter bass response than ported designs. Ported designs offer a definite bump at port tuning freq, but need a subsonic filter to protect subs as noted by Comp VR.

Also, to get a notable increase in bass into the main cabin of your Caddy, an open air port can be employed to allow more bass to come into the cabin of the vehicle. Here, a modest amp and sub system can net excellent bass in the cabin, but no large amps and subs are needed. (efficiency is working on your side this way)

well the only audio shops around here are.... overpriced ($300 for 1 Kicker CVR in Sealed box 03 model and $500 for the lowest alpine deck and its just not worth the money to have him build a box)

how would i add an open air port? i thought about taking out the back speakers and using those as ports into the cabin and putting the 4' in boxes for now until i can get em into my door (because the all i have to do is unscrew the box they are in right now hanging in the top of the trunk and its just a big gaping hole into the trunk)

Wait for some additional inputs from Lessismore or Montego27... they both have done air pass chambers in sedans and have seen very positive results.

The main variables are trunk airspace, air vent area in rear deck and placement of sub enclosure in the trunk. I think Less did a lot of calculations to determine optimal size of the air vents. Tego came up with a vent size based on what he saw available. Not so calculated, but we did run some numbers on vent size we thought would suffice. As it turned out... it worked very well. (~150 in^2) based on estimated trunk airspace and frequency range to pass through the vent.

If you wish to experiment with the open (6x9?) holes as vents, it's a good start. However, use a sealed sub enclosure to give crisp, thumping bass in trunk and cabin.

Can always surface mount the 4" MR drivers in a nice box, to the parcel shelf or mount them in rear doors too. Don't be afraid to experiment a bit as you go... just do it in gradual steps so you don't get in over your head.

I strongly recommend that you consider building it yourself.
I felt resistant about doing my first box, but when i did it, it was a breeze! ... and with a few calculations for a ported box, it really doesnt take much......for a sealed box......anyone can do those in their sleep.

If you have the minor power tools (jigsaw, skilsaw, drills.)....construction shouldnt be an issue.....unless you're under the age of 18, or a senior citizen developing alzheimers.

As far as im concerned, a real man should build his own speaker box......its great to build things with your own two hands.....very nice feeling.....and as long as you have a brain in your head, you wont compromise quality AND you will save yourself anywhere from 50 - 300 dollars!

But for the lazy working man with a day in, day out job.....then forking over the money isnt a terrible idea!

Good Luck with your project!

I would try Swezs' suggestion on trying it first w/ the 6x9 holes, however seal up the other little holes(little random 1" or 2" holes) that are in the deck.Absolutely go w/ a sealed box if you want to port to the cabin otherwise w/ a ported box, you've turned your cabin into the tail end of a sixth order untuned bandpass, and most likely, with very bad transient response. NOT GOOD. I'm running 2 10" Alpine SWR 1021-DVC's in a sealed box w/ .85 CF each, and porting my trunk gave me a 5db gain in SPL. Amp running them is an Alpine MRD-M301 @ 2 ohms. This thing is hittin' like a punch in the chest! I have an SQ system, and guys that are strictly into SPL have gotten in the car and couldn't believe what was coming out of that set-up.They thought I was crazy when I said I was porting my trunk, now their calling me for help on doing it. I guess the adage of a good system is 80% install and 20% product really does ring true.If you need any help give me a holler, my e-mail is ogetnom27@yahoo.com Good Luck, Tego

home depot charges .50 a cut on wood. If you go with the demensions you need they will cut the pieces needed. all you need then is some wood glue and some brads or screws...
