So just curious what you guys think would be the best amp for 200 dollars for a 12 inch alpine type R sub. Thanks Replies (14) lessismorespl on 04/5/2005 21:11:24 You are the guy w/ the MTX 502 right? I did some shopping around and came up w/ these amps, all are in the power range you need, under $200, and are all sold by respectable online stores. http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13290 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13200 http://www.cardomain.com/item/MTX421D http://www.cardomain.com/item/JBLCS2001 alanjlamore on 04/5/2005 21:18:33 Hey, is that a DVC or SVC? If it's 4ohms, SVC then I've been doing a LOT of looking around for an amp for 2 similar subs (350W rms Infinity 10.1). If you're going to be hooking it up to an amp at 4 ohms, then all of the amps I've been looking at should be a good match, since I've been looking at getting 600-800W rms at 2 ohms. I think, for the money, I'm going with the Kenwood Excelon KAC-X811D (a little overkill, but I plan to adjust the gain accordingly) $210 with shipping. Others that I think (through suggestions here) would be great for that sub at 4 ohms would be the Infinity Reference 610A $225 with shipping, ALPINE MRD-M605 $250 with shipping, Kicker KX600.1$260 with shipping, JBL BP600.1 (hard to find). If you have a 4 ohm DVC and plan on hooking the one sub up to an amp at 2 ohms, the same brands have the same type/style/quality of amps at around half the power of the amps listed above: INFINITY REFERENCE 310a $180 with shipping, Alpine MRD-M301 $160 with shipping, JBL BP300.1 (hard to find). After lots of looking around, I think these are good quality amps at good prices on ebay. Mr._Miyagi on 04/5/2005 22:07:41 lessismorespl, do I pay attention to the numbers at 2 ohms or at 4? what would be your top pick? or anyone elses? lessismorespl on 04/5/2005 22:21:29 The MTX 421D on Cardomain is a steal, it is on clearence to make room for the new series of MTX amps. also, you are getting the satisfaction of purchasing from an authorized dealer, which is nice. You have the Type R 4ohm DVC if i'm not mistaken, so you would want to look @ the 2 ohm ratings. Any of these amps would work just fine, I'm kind of partial to MTX amps b/c they are usually under rated, but any of these will work. Again, you would want to run 4 ga to this amp, as long as they get proper voltage and are grounded well, they run efficiently. I have years of experience w/ MTX and Mitek in general, I have used their products off and on since the old MTX Blue Thunder series, was a big fan, still have a couple Blue Thunder Pro amps and Blue Thunder Extreme subs, my friend still runs some of my old Blue Thunder Legend 10's in his car, they are over 7 yrs old now and still hit nice. I think you will like the MTX amp, just remember, it is under rated, so set your gains accordingly, as well as the Thunder Bass EQ to prevent clipping, that amp can blow that sub if it clips too hard. Mr._Miyagi on 04/5/2005 22:46:55 it says 420W x 1 @ 2 ohms, where as the sub says it uses 300 watts RMS, is it over kill to get this sub or do you want more wattage then it needs? does this make it so the amp does not need to work as hard? lessismorespl on 04/5/2005 22:54:38 It gives you some room, you may decide to get another sub, or buy a different sub, etc... It most likely puts out closer to 450-470 wRMS. Your sub is 300 wRMS, 600 max, as long as you set the gains down some and do not get crazy w/ the Thunder EQ you should fine w/ that amp. The Alpine amp on carstereo.com is a good match also, and it is more within the subs rated power. ssallstar598 on 04/5/2005 22:56:57 well a 300 wrms sub will have no problem using a little more wattage (probly safe with up to 500 wrms of amplifier power) just turn the gain down less since your getting more power IF you are looking for a JBL B300.1 i bought one a few weeks ago (works and is in good cosmetic condition) had it pushing 2 Kicker Comp VR 12 4 ohms and it sounded nice (not enuff wattage for my subs which are 400 wrms apiece so i decided to get a JBL B600.1 so now i have a JBL B300.1 to sell) if your interested we can talk numbers and go through ebay buy it now - just let me know if you want it it is THE perfect match for the sub - 300 watts rms for a 300 watt rms sub = perfect LC1 on 04/5/2005 23:05:43 Mr._Miyagi, If you can get your hands on a JBL BP300.1 like the one ssallstart598 has the would be a PERFECT match. I currently own the 300.1 and it is hooked up to a 12" Alpine Type R 4ohm DVC the exact sub you have. I have been running this sub/amp setup for almost a year now and have not a single complaint, you would be surprised at how good 300wrms sounds. Can rattle your trunk and also put out pretty decent SQ as well. Anyways the JBL BP300.1 is what you should get if you can get your hands on one. -Jay- Mr._Miyagi on 04/5/2005 23:11:19 aight ssallstar, lets talk #s. Email me at Takeru95N at hotmail dot com LC1 thanks for the recommendation SPL thanks for your help, I will still be looking into that MTX lessismorespl on 04/6/2005 21:06:31 interesting.... Interesting?????? swez on 04/9/2005 02:12:16 Yes... interesting is a polite rebuke for doing deals on this forum. Although it not a bad idea to hook up a buddy up with some decent gear here, usually are not so obvious about same. CK doesn't have a policy on such matters to date. However, some would view this as spamming. That, we don't allow. Please keep that in mind and make any side deals off the site. Be discrete? That's fair enough for all to follow... good site etiquette too. Does that square with all in this post? We don't need flame wars here... just good judgement. CK is an open forum for ideas, not sales transactions we are not equipped to sanction or manage. Look at both sides of the coin here. CK is not ebay. We cannot protect either party from a deal gone south. Thanks for your cooperation folks, Swez ssallstar598 on 04/9/2005 18:12:02 yes - sorry my bad, although as i mentioned it would be through ebay but nonetheless this is not the place to discuss swez on 04/9/2005 20:23:17 Yes, all is as it should be again. Put it down as learning experience for all of us. Best to keep the site as a knowledge based forum and not a place to market our gear.
