hey, I've been pretty set on the Alpine MRD-M605 amp for my 2 Infinity Perfect subs (4 ohm SVC, 350W rms ea.) but I'm waiting until I have more money, and finish building my boxes. Since I have all this time before I commit to buy, I've been looking around at other class D amps and saw this KAC-X811D amp that puts out 600W rms with 12V, and 800W rms (or 900W rms depending on the website I look at) at 14.4V. I can get this for about $60 less than the Alpine, so I'm looking for oppinions on how much better the Alpine amp is. They both have great features, so the only thing I am worried about is the quality of Kenwood amps. I don't think they're as bad as the Legacy line, but I don't know if they are known for fudging their ratings. Any suggestions? Would anyone here think I'd notice a sound quality difference between this amp and the Alpine?? Thanks in advance for anyone who replies, Replies (2) swez on 04/2/2005 21:15:15 The Excelon series is a very good product from Kenwood. This amp is going to be pretty strong for your subs however. This is an older Kenwood and many like the previous models. Key Features: » 533 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (CEA-2006 Compliant) » 919 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms » requires 4-gauge power and ground leads — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier » AMS Amplifier Management System (-15 to 15 dB bass level control, Q factor control, bass/treble frequency control) » variable 50-200 Hz low-pass filter at 24 dB per octave » switchable subsonic filter (0/15 Hz, 24 dB/octave) » LED status display (AMS settings, voltage, current, temperature, fan speed, and protection status) » cooling fan » 15-3/16"W x 2-7/16"H x 10-7/16"D (11-1/8"D with RCA cables connected) Setting the gains and bass boost, (don't use boost) are key to full bass performance w/o frying a sub. Swez lessismorespl on 04/2/2005 23:27:47 Yes, I agree, the eXcelon models are good amps. IMHO I feel Kenwoods main line is just as good if not a little better than Alpine, and the eXcelon line definately better. I have used Alpines amps before and was not really impressed, especially for the money they want for them. I do like the subs though. the Type R's are really good subs. This years Kenwood and Kenwood eXcelon amps are really nice. I ran a 7251 for over a year bridged @ 3ohms and never had a problem w/ it, so I would say they are definately a durable amp, and the power ratings are very honest, maybe even a little under rated.
