Mycurrent HU doesnt play any cds, so im ready to buy a new one. Im willing to spend about $200 or so on one, but cant figure out which to get. Im thinking of the Alpine-CDA9847 or the CDA9827. Can anyone reccomend one? my current system is a Kenwood KDC-MP425, 2 Adire Shivas in a 1 1/4ft Sealed box, powered by a JBL bp600.1 and the original interior speakers.

A chip from sony.

Basically, ALL CD players are the same. just suspension and signal processing separate them. Of course, cosmetics are different, but that's not something that affects the sound.

Basically, look for 4V preouts, and if possibly, ones that can do front, rear, and subwoofer so that you can send the signal to as many speakers as you'll likely use.

I would recommend spending enough on your CD player so that you get enough features so that you don't have to upgrade later. Pioneer has decent features on most of their models.

Just be willing to spend a little more money. You'll thanks me later.

Alright, thanks MrBrownstone. but i was also wondering about things like EQ bands and Sound shaping type? will lack of EQ bands make a difference?

EQ bands allow you to correct for acoustic variances that occur in cars and installations.

EX: If you install your tweeter in the dash facing the window, some frequencies will reflect better than others...therefore, you'll need to quiet down some bands...like from 2-3k--as these reflect very well. I like having either 3 selectable bands in the player because you can adjust that from up front.

Shaping? You are in a car? the only time correction and shaping you need is your Balance control. I know that markineering departments make outrageous claims on how some of their features are valuable. It's just a plea to get you to fork over more dough. Your speakers are just too close to your face to truly get the benefit from those type of features.

The max you need for plain audio (non video) is:

4V preouts
Front & Rear preouts
Subwoofer preout w/ Gain Control
Selectable Crossovers (for Front, Rear, Subwoofer)
MP3 Compatible.

Anything more than that is either eye candy, or marketing ploys to add 'value' to the player. The bottom of the line to the top of the line players cost only $15-25 difference to make,...but a ton more profit to sell.
