I was taking a look at a guys rebuilt 70s torana [australian car] on the weekend, he was an auto sparkie so he seemed to know what he was doing, he claimed to be running a 7 year old sony deck he said that using certain cables effects the life is this true??????
And he was running 6*9s in the back parcel shelf that was running off the HU and near each of them there were LED lights that danced with the bass, I asked him how he did it and he said that the leds were running off the came cabels that were going to the 6*9s
Has anyone got any info on this????
Such as in what way they run off the cables and is it safe and good to do it??

Sounds like a type of light organ. A lot of guys used to make them back in tech school to use with our stereos in the barracks. It's been a lonnnng time since I've seen one. About all I can remember about them is that they were comprised of a number of filters and a number of different colored lights. The lights would iluminate when the freq's they corresponded with were present. Some were pretty elaborate with over 30 colors, and the light spectrum was used for color/freq order (red for low freq's to violet for high freq's).

light or color organ, you could probably do a search and find a kit that is easy to build and cheap.

as for cables effecting the life of a deck, i call bs. I guess it is true as cheap cables could ground out and kill a deck, but I don't think any cables will pro-long the life of a head unit. Sony decks 5-10 yrs ago I think are better then what they crank out today. That radio will probably last another 10 yrs, longer then a new one will... I have a buddy still using a sony MD player and cd changer that I sold him, over 6 yrs ago after owning them for 2 yrs...

I thort the hu cables story was a little far.
The guy only had only 1 Led per speaker but he said that they were running off the cables going to the speakers and didnt mention anything about light organ, from what i know about Leds that drag very little power and compared to a hu output there should be plenty of power to power them and im asuming that when there are high pitch sounds there is less power and low pitch there is more power the Leds should come on with the bass and off with the trebble giving the dancing effect.
Is this theroy right or wrong????
And is anyone elst ever done it???

you are correct that led's do use minimal voltage, .7 to be exact. But if you consider that a good head unit has 2-5 volts, are you willing to loose 15-30% of your signal for a neat little light?

I don't know if it would work really, never tried.

I think I found a better way, i was at a car store today and found a "thing" that you plug your rca cables into and plug into yuor cigarette lighter and plug your neons into the "thing" and it makes them dance to the music, so i am going to set up a system of dancing neons and led

But there is always a catch I looked in my hu booklet today and found "Preout max output level/output impedance...2.2V/1kohm,
I have already got the 2 preouts spilt into 2 then one of them split again so altogeter there are 2 split into 6 would it be ok to split the cables again to run into the "thing"???????
