My old HU was running but no sound was coming out. Everything else looked normal so I assumed the HU was bad. So i picked up a new HU and there is still no sound. Same problem. Everything lights up and runs, but no sound. My brother says it cut out when he hit a bump in the car. What do you think the problem could be. A fuse or something. I dont see how that could be it b/c it still turns on and all. I could also see one wire going bad or cuttin out, but not ALL 4 sets of speaker wires. Im lost guys. Replies (9) compvr15s on 03/25/2005 22:49:11 sounds like a grounding issue, either the at the head units ground to the chasis, or one of the speakers is grounding out causing all of the speakers not to work... if you can pull the head unit out and check the ground connection, if that dont fix it may be a fuse but i doubt it since the lights are comming on, id say its more than likly a grounding issue Black_Rob on 03/26/2005 01:56:49 I assumed it was something like that. What im not sure of, is if it has to be grounded properly for the head unit to turn on. If it does, then I know that the main ground lead is good, b/c the HU powers up and all. Then I would know for sure that its just an individual wire speaker wire that is causing the problem. So if anyone could tell me how that works, I would appreciate it. Any other opinions or suggestions would be appreciated as well. This site is the church for car audio! compvr15s on 03/26/2005 02:51:06 i dont think the head unit would power up if the ground was bad, id assume its a speaker ground or maybe something deeper in the wiring. how do you have the wires connected under the dash, did you use connectors or soider, or did you just use tape.... the fisrt 2 are better options gurentee a better and more stable connection.. if you just twist and tape, very good chance a wire can come loose, also same goes for connecting the speakers, using tape is a poor choice here, if it went out when he hit a bump, id say a wire is loose and touching the frame somewhere, or the wire lost its coating and is in contact with the ground. wait for other to reply before you do any major work, but i know i had my pioneer head unit do this before, my front drivers side speaker had the connection terminals touchin a part of the door frame, i think the track for the window, so i had to turn the speaker about 45 degrees and also just placed some tape over the terminals, corrected the problem. swez on 03/26/2005 07:58:28 Three possible issues here... 1. Speaker wiring harness is not properly connected to external speakers 2. Internal amp in vehicle needs to be bypassed if there is one 3. Grounding is not adequate Did you use a conversion harness when you installed the aftermarket HU? This really simplifies the install process and eliminates much of the guess work about whick wires go where. Did not note the vehicle you installed into. Some cars have internal amps between stock HU and speakers. These have to be bypassed or removed from the circuit in order to get the speakers to work. (GM/Bose, Ford/JBL, Chrysler/Infinity etc.) The HU should be grounded to the floor pan or bare metal on firewall. A poorly grounded HU may light up or turn on, but w/o a proper ground, may not be enough return path current to fire up the internal amplifiers. QUOTE: "This site is the church for car audio! Something may have come loose and now you have no sound. Good luck, Swez ><> UKinstaller on 03/26/2005 09:13:19 well, if the speakers were working with an aftermarket HU before, i don't it's a problem with the amp not turning on, unless of course that bump destroyed the amp. it sounds like you have some speaker wire somewhere in the car touching bare metal. what i usually do is just pull out the radio, leave the power on, and then one by one cut a speaker wire connection between the cd player harness and the wiring harness until the speakers come on. if you cut a wire and the speakers come on (except of course the speaker of which wire you cut) then that's the speaker causing the problem. double check the connections at the speaker causing the problem. white wires: front left speaker grey wires: front right speaker green wires: back left speaker purple wires: back right speaker good luck -UK ttocs on 03/26/2005 10:45:05 what kind of car, what kind of equip? Black_Rob on 03/26/2005 10:57:10 Its a 1988 Honda Accord. I used a wiring harness. I dont think there is an internal amp, but im not positive. Black_Rob on 03/26/2005 12:42:43 It was a grounding issue with one of the speakers. Thanks for the help. ttocs on 03/26/2005 18:57:37 yes, if one of the speakers grounds out it turns the deck amp off to protect it. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
