Replies (3) uochronos on 03/24/2005 12:53:36 does the BMW have a premium system originaly? if so then you need to bypass the stock amp. look at the speakers do they say infinity or JBL or anything else on the stock speakers or grills? Chronos aznsens8ion54 on 03/24/2005 13:27:18 i dnt think it was a premium system because all the stock speakers hand nothing on them. UKinstaller on 03/24/2005 15:00:05 all BMW's are factory amplified. here's what you have to do. it sucks, but there's really no way around it. pull the back left wall out of your trunk, you'll see the factory amp behind that carpet there. there's two or three bolts holding the amp in. take it out, disconnect the two harnesses going into it, and get ready. cut off those two harnesses, but leave plenty of room to reattach it should you ever put the factory amp back in. you COULD tap into the wires instead of cutting off the harness, put it is a lot harder because of how many wires you have to get. strip back all those wires, tape off the solid white (that's your remote turn on) and "pop" each speaker wire to locate your speakers throughout the car. you can use a 9v battery, i use the battery off of my drill to do it. hold one speaker wire on the positive or negative terminal on your battery, then run through and touch all the other wires on the battery's other terminal until you hear a pop. when it pops, that means it's speaker wire going to the same speaker. all together, you have to pop 10 different speakers. 6 up front (two in each door, two woofers) and the components in the rear. personally, i wouldn't connect the midrange speakers (the lower speaker in each door) unless you were putting in three-way components, otherwise it sounds funky. if you connect just the tweeter and woofer to each side up front, it sounds a lot better. now, wire these into your JL amp. this is the only way to make it sound better. your factory amp has some FUNKY built in crossovers, so the only way to make it sound better is to completely bypass it. you might want to consider getting a haynes manual or whatever, they have all the speaker wire colors in there, if you don't feel like popping all of those wires. trust me man, this is a lot of work, but once it's over, you'll never have to do it again. but man i cannot stress enough how much this sucks. you can do it though. holler if you need help. have fun. excellent setup, by the way. -UK Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
