Metal near speakers causing distortion??

This is probably a dumb question, but I have a couple of high end 12" subs, with some strong magnets. I wanted to find out what type of distortion or speaker deterioration might be caused if there was sheet metal near the magnet of the speaker. The last thing I want is bad sound or a dead speaker, but its a tight install. Any advice would be appreciated.

Generally, not a problem in audio. If you used this as a HT application, the subs would have to be mounted well away from the Monitor or use of bucking magnets to shield them from Monitor. In a car application, no problem.

How far away? And what's a bucking magnet?

it is a regular magnet, the same as what is on the back of the speaker. If you take it, and mount it(with stong glue!) to the back of the speaker magnet, but with the polarity of the magnets backwards, you get a magnetically shielded speaker. The 2nd magnet(bucking magnet) will absorbe the magnetic field that the 1rst gives off.

If guys can put their subwoofers in a metal enclosure, you have nothing to worry about.
