Hey guys, I just bought a used BOLT 1-farad capacitor off eBay for 25.00 and was wondering how I hook this up. I receoved no instructions for it and remember reading somewhere you need a resistor for charging/discharging them. There appears to be 2 connectors on the top of the cap, one marked " + " the other marked " x10 " ... can anyone expalin how i go about installing this? Thanks.

if its used it should already be charged. but im not forsure, if i may ask why did you buy a cap.... unless you have little dimming in your lights a cap wont do much for you... its not a good solution to fixing a problem... upgrading your wires under the hood may help the problem of dimming lights just as well. upgrade the neg from ground to bat, neg from alt to motor, and pos from batt to alt. upgrade these to 4gauge wire.... as for the cap you use it kind of like an inline fues, just take pos cable from your batter to amp and run to pos of the cap and then take another wire same gauge and run it from same pos terminal as batter is hooked(+) and then run that to your amp. as for grounding, just keep your original amp ground dont ground through the cap. use the same ground spot to ground the cap, so you dont have to drill another hole, just put both eyelets from the amp ground and the cap ground and a washer under your bolt and retighten.... make sure your gorund is to a bare metal spot make sure no paint is blocking the connectiong, sand the area first.... if the cap is not charged and did not come with the diode to charge it, go buy a 1k ohm resistor(radioshack should carry them) and get a voltmeter... ground your cap.. then take the resistor and place it between your power source and the pos terminal on the cap. the votmeter should go up as the cap charges one it gets to your electical limits the mter will not increase anymore, then alls you have to do is wire the amp to the cap and you will be good to go.... i have also charged these with a battery charger. just hook (+)(+) and (-)(-),,,, dont know if its ok to do it this way but ihave done it before and cap woked fine...good luck

the cap only has 2 connectors on it .... From whay I just read and understood, it should be connected like an inline fuse (battery into cap - out cap to amp) ... Im assuming the post marked "+" would be the incoming voltage - and the post marked "x10" would be the output. Does this sound right? If I DO have to ground it - how do I - there's no terminal.

id assume the x10 is the ground, it dont work like an inline fuse. has pos and a neg, give more info on your exact cap and i can look at it online

We have no kind of background on your current Audio system , neither on you electrical system,

All I can say at this stage is that you need to buy a pair of neon lights..make a custom made Plexiglass enclosure and put the capacitor in it, use it as a show piece in your car.. will look really cool..
