i might be getting rid of my old system, 2 15inch comp vrs in custom built enclosure, probably 2 cubic feet per sub. and 2 kicker kx600.1s. i was wondering how you think the system i want to get will compare to the one i just listed.... new system, i was thinking adire audio brahma 15, or XXX runnin off of a hifonics bx1605d amp.. running at 1 omh, amp nets 1600 watts... i think i will be able to get about 500 dollars out of my sub/amp setup now... im figuring a box for the new sub to probably 3-4 cubic foot, or maybe smaller but ported, since i listen to alot of rap music... thanx guys, i know its hard to compare this but just wondering if it will be an improvement in spl-sq. or do you think its going to be a waiste of time and money. Not Cheap though. Both come in 2+2 DVC wiring and each sub can handle >1000 Wrms and both use BBL motor technology. That translates to long throw, high X-max performance your Kicker Comps VR's cannot do. As for enclosure design, The XXX likes a large vented box. The Brahma can do very well in a more compact ported/vented enclosure. The KX-600.1 is strappable with an external Strapping wire kit. Here, you get the power of both amps, combined to a single 4 ohm load. The manual shows how to do this. See page 6 of 16 in the manual for details. May need some additional tech notes from Kicker on this configuration. http://www.kicker.com/05/tech-support/manuals/manuals/04KX%20400-600-1200_1%20Amplifiers.pdf Best I can tell, strapping both Kicker amps will net plenty of power to run whatever sub you choose to use. Just make sure you have a 4 ohm load when strapping amps. Comments? Swez compvr15s on 03/16/2005 15:10:12 -yea i thought about that but they match my subs pretty well and the person needs an amp or two if he buys my system. plus they are a few years old, i think i bought them in 02. do you think the hifonics is a good amp selection here, or should i choose another brand, i have no experience with their products but they seem pretty good.... i really dont need 1600 watts, i was thinking more along the lines of 1200 watts would sound good with the mentioned sub in a ported enclosure.... but the hifonics was under 300 bucks so it seemed like a good deal, thanx, its gonna be a while, i still need to find a new job, unemployment pay just isnt cuttin it, and i still want to buy a new car. swez on 03/16/2005 19:48:57 HiFonics makes some very good amps. A few of them are also 1 ohm stable. If you can get one for $300.00 and ~1000-1200 Wrms, definitely worth the expense. I hear ya on the "Unenjoyment Compensation" deal. Just enough to get by. No more, no less. Good luck in your job search! Swez P0werLifter on 03/16/2005 19:53:33 Hifonics Makes some quality products, but from many review's ive read on different forums, they wont put out exactly what they've stated on the spec list. They put out a little lower than the specs provided say, thats not to say they are good for the money because they are still quality build and good for the price range. As far as the brahma or the XXX is concerned,,, you cant go wrong here. While i dont have experience with the brahma, i Currently own a 15"XXX and I am VERY pleased with its performance. At high excursion it still holds its sound very well and doesnt distort the sound at high output as long as the power is clean. XXX prefer larger enclosures 3cu Ft+ and hit the lows with ease. My current setup is in a 8cu Ft enclosure after all displacements and im hitting 140+ dB's. Next design will be in a little smaller enclosure but still, sounds awesome. I need to run a little more power to it but it works great for now. Well im off to an interview,.,,ill add more later. PL Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
