Do you guys think that an Alpine MRD-M501 would be sufficiant to run a single JL 10W7, or would be better suited to run a 12W6v2? The MRD-M501 puts out 550RMS watts @ 14.4 volts, and im guessing around 400-450ish at 13.5v. I know watts wise it would probably work for either, but what about the sound quality of Alpine's Accuclass V12 amps? So if this amp is decent to use would it work better with a 10W7 or 12W6v2? Thanks, Jay Replies (4) montego_27 on 03/15/2005 19:06:29 It depends on what you looking for. The 10' will tend to be tighter and a ittle quicker. The 12' will be a little deeper and boomier. In either instance the 501 will POUND. I've got the 301 w/ 2 Alpine 1021 DVC 10' subs in a sealed box and I can't believe what it's producing. I think Alpine is underating their amps now, the same way good Fosgate amps did years ago. That, plus CEA compliance has been introduced and it's going to benefit the better companies. Buickman94 on 03/15/2005 19:09:09 According to the chart on the JL website, 400-450 watts is optimum for the 12w6v2, where as the optimum power for a 10w7 is around. 500-550. But thats assuming you are using the reccomended enclosure. http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/RP_Chart.html Victor on 03/16/2005 03:14:02 Well if you are in the power range of 33% more then the rated rms on the sub then you can be assured that the sub gets the cleanest signal and will play the cleanest note.. this theory is known as the Dynamic headroom theory.. so i dont see a problem with using either of the subs.. but the 10" (SQ choice) and a 12" (SQL choice).untrained ears wont be able to make out a difference at high volumes but there is certainly going to be one.. That amp is a very potent amp.. u will be very happy using that amp to power any sub u choose.. Victor.. swez on 03/16/2005 08:20:54 Pretty strong amp there LC. Do you have the space to run a pair of 10's? If yes, consider a pair of 4 ohm SVC's or 2+2 DVC's and this puppy will really bark at the moon. Nothing against JL as they are fine products... but they are pretty spendy. A pair of Alpine. Infinity or similar 10" subs can be had for under $200.00 off e-bay and they WILL hit hard with this amp choice. (above average SQL bass system) Also, this amp will draw upwards of 50A of current at full power. That translates to needing a strong ALT/BAT for your electricals. Are you also planning to run a 2nd amp for mid/highs? If yes, gonna need a strong electrical system to power them. (120A ALT min) Comments? Swez Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
