Can wiring cause a cd player to not accept cds?

check your +12v switched, the red wire. Should have +12v on it with the key on. If you don't have a voltmeter er testlight(as every installer should), they simply connect the red wire from the radio, to the yellow wire(+12v constant) and see if it works without the key. If it does then check all fuses(might want to start here before re-wiring. I mean ALL the fuses when I say all, do not leave any unchecked even if you think it has nothing to do with the radio.

the head unit wont come on and stay on by itself? u have to place a cd into it to turn it on? only takes 3 wires to power the amp, hot, switched, and ground, make sure you have these three wired up correctly first. i know on my old pioneer if you antenna was not plugged in the player would not work for some reason. also make sure you speakers are not being grounded out somewhere. more than likely it the something in the first 3 wires, but definitly wiring if your other player does it too. my want to pull the face plate off and take a pencil eraser and just rub lightly over the connection, will clean off any debris and dirt. good luck

if your deck would not work without the antenna being plugged in, you were grounding through the antenna. More then likely it was an import car that iso mounted and grounded through the chassis.
