REM wire...

Hey everyone hows it going?

Just wondering if this a good idea to do or not. I was thinking about wiring an open/closed switch inline with the REM wire to the amp. The only reason why I want to do this is because sometimes I still want to listen to music but just not wth my sub. I know I can turn the bass down a bit on my HU, but sometimes on long trips I just want it all the way off.

To me I don't see a problem with this, but I thought I'd ask the experts here first and hear what you had to say.

Thanks,
Jay

Oh yah and one more thing, how many amp of current do you think is running though a rem wire? When I was looking at switches at radio shack they had amp ratings on them. I am assuing they would be the max they can handle.

yeah doing that is perfectly fine. i've actually done it on a couple people's cars. i used regular radio shack toggle switches. you can go to autozone and get some different looking switches, some flush mount in the dash, some have special lights, etc. but i would go there and check them out. any switch should work fine.

does ur head unit have the option of sub on and off? i know some do, most pioneer models do, as for the rem wire i would put a small fuse like <10 amps. as uk said, can get differnent style switches for this, might as well get creative, good luck

HU Rem circuits are generally very low current. (~200-300mA) That's not very much current (~1/20th - 1/30A) so you don't need much of a switch here. Fusing the Rem line would be difficult too. Very low amperage fuses are a bit hard to find.

If the rem circuit is so low do I really need to wire a fuse with it? It doesn't have one now and it connected directly to my amp. Also, aren't the amperage ratings on switches just how much current they can handle?

no fuse required. it should be perfectly fine.

Ok thanks UK, I picked up a flushmount switch from radio shack today on sale for $1.99. When I get some time I will have to re-route my rem wire and hook it up.

Thanks,
Jay
