i have upgraded my front and rear speakers. should i go with a 2 or 4 channel amp to power them? the front speakers are infinity 6.5" with 75 watts RMS and 275 max. the rear are 6 x 9's with 100 RMS and 300 max. if i'm correct, the main thing i would lose if i go with a 2 channel amp is the ability to control the balance? or should i go with the 4 channel amp? what are the pros and cons and what do you recommend?

i also would like some recommendations of amps for under $200. thanks guys.

what are ur plans for later on? do u plan to have subs later on or just want ur interior speakers louder. if u dont want subs id recommend a 4 channel, if u do want subs id go with a 5 channel, which give u a 4 channel with addition of a class d sub amp.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4950&item=5756794477&rd=1

here are some amps to look at most were 200 or less. but there was a 5 channel in there to check out, were many others to choose from on ebay. i just rummaged through the first few pages... list what u want to do with your system and we can then better suggest an amp setup for u. good luck

There are several ways to go on this process.

1. Amp the front channels, run the rear speakers off the HU amplifiers and use a sub amp for the bass. A modest 2 channel and sub amp are all you need here.

2. Use a 4 channel amp for front & rear speakers so you can blend then to a nice balance and add a dedicated sub amp for bass.

3. A good 5 channel amp is also an option. Amp all 4 speakers and have a Class D sub channel for bass. The only thing here, if you want big bass performance, few 5 channel amps give adequate power for loud subs.

PS CompVR... nice to have posted all those links to help out. But, they are all jummbled together. Harder to cut & paste dude. Try this method in the future OK... much easier to work with.

thanks guys. sorry i didn't give you guys enough background info on what i already have. I'm already running a class d amp to my 2 12' subs. from reading what you guys have posted, i think i will go with a 4 channel amp. now i just have to do some research as to which one i want to get (or have the money to get).

OK, one thing we need to stress... POWER MANAGEMENT!

You have a sub amp... good! What is the RMS power rating of this Class D amp you are running now? Depending on your power consumption on the sub amp, only have so much electrical power left, to power a 2nd amp w/o power shortages in the BAT/ALT. That means possible electrical upgrades that can be expensive later.

Say more please,

Swez

PS Do you have Yahoo IM and a mic?

thanks for the reminder and the concern Swez. from your previous help and chronos and others, i have already upgraded my battery and have installed a high output alternator. the amp i have right now is running at around 800 RMS for the 2 amps. how much more power can i get out of my electricals? i think i should not go for an amp with a larger fuse rating of 60 amps.

swez,

i don't have yahoo IM, but you could email me at gnehc1@yahoo.com i don't always have time to check out the forum. thanks. and IF i were to get another amp, how would i wire it up with the other amp? would it be as easy as connecting some RCAs from the ouput ports of the mono black amp to the input ports of the 4 channel amp, etc?

We need to talk this one through via Yahoo IM or Skype. Either has file share, voice transmission and pics to share data/info efficiently.

Yahoo members can get Yahoo IM free.We can chat via mic or keyboard, realtime.

www.skype.com is also very good. Great free software for file sharing, pics and instant text messaging. If you have a mic for your computer, we can do this in short order. A mic is under $10.00. A real time saver too. Eliminates all the typing.

What say you?

Swez

PS Am logging off for tonight. My skype mail and Yahoo IM are both "swezdp". See ya on IM or Skype
