Hey guys...a buddy of mine is lookin to get some punch out of his car and I told him I would put up a post here to get some advice on good quality stuff at decent prices. He has a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse with the stock Infiniti system in it right now. He's lookin to spend no more than $750, but would like to keep it around $600 if possible. Basically his whole theme is the best stuff for the best value. He's not looking to win any competitions or anything here, but he definately wants it to hit and soung good. We're looking for a decent HU, and either two 10's or a 12 and of course an amp to power all of it. I have an earlier model eclipse and know how small the trunk is, so the box also is also something to think about. Basically I'm just looking for advice on what setup would be good for his budget but also sound real nice. I was thinking somewhere between 3 and 6 hundred watts on the amp would do him fine...what do you guys think? Anyways, I appreciate any help you guys can dish out. You've always come through for me in the past. Take it easy everyone!! Aaron Replies (4) uochronos on 03/3/2005 18:40:34 good subs to look at for cheap are adire shiva, ED Ov2, also alpien type R and S are both good choices... also infinity makes several nice subs.. all those are 100-200$ easy to find a 300-600watt amp for 150-300$ thats about 450$ for sub and amp.. then maybe 200$ for a decent HU. if shopped well can get some real good gear for under 700$ Chronos aaronarn on 03/4/2005 01:43:40 One thing I forgot guys...could you also recommend what guage poqwe wire we should use for about a 600 watt amp? I'm guessing 4 would probably do it, but I want to make sure. Thanks again! Aaron swez on 03/4/2005 08:19:50 Correct... #4 gage is fine for powering amps above 600 Wrms. A typical Class D sub amp will draw a max current of ~60A. If your friend is planning to run speakers off the HU, a 300 Wrms sub system is plenty of bass. Here, a #8 gage wire set is plenty adequate. However, if he thinks a 2nd amp for highs/mids., best to use a #4 wire kit to allow for upgrades later. Swez compvr15s on 03/5/2005 07:32:54 i know a guy that lives in the same town as me that had a 97 eclipse not sure how much different the trunk is but he had a single 12 inch kicker L7 solo in a ported box in the back running off of a bd1500 amp, one of the loudest systems i have ever heard around here. wont need that big of amp tho, id recommend jbl bp600.1 can get that off ebay for 150 shipped, can get the kicker 12" L7 for 150 shipped, theres 300 for sub and amp, say another 100 for wiring and box if u build it urself, leaves 300 for head unit, can find very nice units at 200 or less. just a suggestion, chronos mentioned nice gear too.. all will get loud and sound good, good luck.
