hello,

I recently just bought a volvo station wagon 740 series. I want to install my Aiwa CDC-X304 CD-R/MP3 stereo into my volvo from my previously owned vehicle. I have the harness to plug into the stereo but the harness wires which that are in the car are completely different than the harness that plugs into my stereo, i tried looking for parts to so if i can just plug them in but had no luck so my next solution is to wire the cables together.

i know which cables are what in the car harness (in the dash) but im not sure which one is which on the cables that connect to my stereo. Its a Smartcables Auto setereo wire harness system Aiwa 16 pin radio to universal. The manuel for the harness came with the stereo but i misplaced it and was hopeing someone here can tell me which cable is which (color coded).

can you describe the volvo harness?? what shape and number of wires to be exact. the reason i ask is that most volvos from the late 80's, early 90's have factory amps under the steering wheel that need to be bypassed in order to get sound. there is a harness available for it at most shops, and it's really not too hard. you'll know it has a factory amp if you only get sound from your dash speakers (if you have any) and not the door speakers.

aiwa harness colors:

yellow - constant 12v

red - switched 12v (ignition)

black - ground

white - front left +
white/black - front left -

grey - front right +
grey/black - front right -

green - back left +
green/black - back left -

purple - back right +
purple/black - back right -

blue - power antenna

blue/white - remote wire hook-up if installing amp

good luck man. holler if you need any more help.
