I'm in a quick search for subs to put together my new system, its been about a week since i've been without a system, and i'm itchin to hear some bass!
My original plan was for two Eclipse SW9152 15"s.
The price has held me back a little, so i've also been eyeballing the Audiobahn AW1508Ts. Theres about a 100$ price difference between the two, the Bahn being cheaper.
What i want is the better SPL sub, i care nothing for SQ.
The Bahn has a 1-way linear Xmax of 20mm.
The Eclipse claims to have a 1.75" one-way Xmax...which comes out to around 44mm!!!! I think that is some BS, or just a type-o.
Both would be in ported boxes, just FYI....not sure of wattage to them yet.
So, in a ballpark figure, which of these two subs is going to put up more dBs of bass, completely regardless of SQ....??

If your on a budget, and care nothing for SQ, then id say go with the bahns, If you want good SPL (probably better than the Bahns), SQ (better than the bahn) then id say go with the Eclipse.
Personally, id save up the money and go with the Eclipse. Also, about the 42mm of excursion, theres a difference between XmaX and Xmech, XmaX is linear, Xmech is how far the cone can move b4 it goes past its mechanical limits (causing damage to the woofer).
Also keep in mind, XmaX isnt everything, yes it helps and does displace more air, but there are subs out there winning competitions for SPL (Digital Designs 99XX series) that dont have huge Xmax but throw up huge numers.
In all honesty, I cant really guestimate the dB's you'll hit on the woofer. How much power do you have available? any electrical upgrades?

As for the Eclipse sub, they actually say "Xmax (one-way) - 1.75in." on their website, but i agree its probaly another param.
For either sub, i will have 1000RMS for whichever amp i choose.
Running a 200amp alternator, heavy duty battery.
Either choice would be in a ported box tuned to 25-35Hz around 3-4 ft^3.
I reckon it'll be worth the extra dough for the Eclipses, and anyways im tired of owning Audiobahn stuff :P
I'm really not on a budget either, just a tightwad.
