Pioneer AVH-P6500DVD Problem

I just got a Pioneer AVH-P6500DVD from a friend. When driving, the faceplate lights and screen go out. They start by turning off and on slowly, and than go out all together. The wiring and harness seems to be tight. I can't duplictate the problem when I have the unit out of the dash. Does anyone know why this is, or how I can fix it?

all newer DVD players in car well not come opn unless car is stoped and emergency brake is turned on... its nto safe for it to be on while driving. so its likly somehting to do with the fact your brake isnt on or a problem with the wire ran to the Ebreak

i don't think it's that. if the e-brake wire wasn't hooked up, the unit would still work fine as far as illumination and stuff go, the only difference is that if you put a DVD in it would tell you it can't play it.

did you hook up the illumination wires on the dvd player??

The EBrake connection does not seem to be the problem. I do not need to engage the Ebrake to use the tuner, XM and CD player. I have checked all the wires back to the vehicle harness, and everything appears to be okay. I had thought it might be a loose connection on the face. When this problem occurs, the radio or CD continue to play, I just have no lights or control on the face. When I remove the face, the radio or CD stop. This makes me think it is not the face connection.

oh i'm sorry i misunderstood. mine does that occasionaly flashes in and out... usualy itake the face plat off and take a relativly soft brass brush and clean up the connectors usualy workls fine after that.
