Profile California series amps. Do they make a decent product, or is it best forgotten? Replies (28) UKinstaller on 02/23/2005 08:50:50 they are getting better and better every year. they used to be comparable to a boss, pyle, etc type, but i would rate them somewhere with a pioneer, coustic, or maybe even sony amp now. they really aren't that bad. if they are installed correctly and subs are wired probably, they usually don't pose any problems at all. -UK uochronos on 02/23/2005 12:11:02 Not a top of the line amp but a good entry level one. no frills no above average specs but it well put its power out there for you and has all the basics you need. Chronos MrBrownstone on 02/23/2005 16:03:09 Basically there are 3 types of amplifier companies: Ones that underperform their ratings Ones that perform adequately to their ratings Ones that outperform to their ratings If you READ the manual inside the boxes of most all manual will tell the story, the power @ what voltage/distortion, etc. Boss, Profile were and still ARE in the same marketing arena--they put 800W on the outside cover, but inside rate them at 50Wx4--and 50Wx4 is accurate. Just be mindful that if the manufacturer is not highly reputable, you're better off spending the money on a proven performer. No sense buying an amp, then 6 months later replacing it with the one you should have bought in the first place. Amps this car audio pimp wouldn't recommend: Boss Pyle Profile Bazooka Bottom Audiobahn Bottom MA Audio Mobile Authority Jensen Coustic Emerson Kole Legacy Soundstorm Rockwood Lanzar bottom end (Opti-drives OK) Planet Audio (since taken over by Same company as Boss) Nitro Permance Teknique Power Acoustic (old Ceramic Subs OK) Swiss (audiobahn/MA clone--can't remember) Visonik Volfvenhag Thump American Legacy (legacy) Diesel Cyclone LA Sound DHD Pyramid Prestige Ultra Linear SPL American Pro Ample (bottom end) American Bass Crunch (most) Xplod-Sony (something about a product with that name) Hifonics (bottom end. Top end OK) Digital Audio = Old Audiobahn The point of the matter is that there are about 15 of the above mfr's that have their products assembled by the same company...just different marketing. Pretty much ANY brand that is named similarly to a good amp (soundstorm and rockwood) is not a good idea. audeogod on 02/23/2005 16:39:13 Yeah, I always knew the ones that copied higher end names were no good. I once owned a Profile California amp. One of the old white ones. I never even got to hear it in action though cause I sold it before I hooked it up. So I don't have a clue to their sound quality. I was looking at one, and of course it's rated at it's peak power. But it's RMS is 50 x 4 and I was wondering about it being OK on interior speakers. uochronos on 02/23/2005 16:57:36 if als you need is 50watts of power and its a good deal then ya it well work good. Chronos danielm87 on 02/23/2005 20:11:11 In regards to the original question= JUNK. DM audeogod on 02/23/2005 20:41:33 Wait now, I didn't even mention Wal-Mart on here about an amp at all. I have no problem with their Pioneer HU's though. Prove otherwise that they are not as good. Can't be done. As a matter of fact, I make the statement that any other Pioneer HU, no matter what model # or where it came from, if it has the same ratings as a Wal-Mart HU, then it will sound absolutely, totally, exactly the same. No differences at all. And that is if they have the same wattage ratings, EQ, or any other thing that affects sound. If there are no differences in any of that, then there is no way it can not be as good. Therefore Wal-Mart is a *good* place to go to save some money on a HU if you want a Pioneer and they sell what you like. So what's wrong with that? Speakers however are a different story. And recently I've made a few posts regarding better names of speakers, and the research I've been doing to locate the exact best pair that suites my needs. So I'm getting away from Wal-Mart speakers. But I can't just tell you what I'm looking for and then ask for suggestions on what will work for me and then just accept blindly what you say. You can't just make a suggestion on what amp will do the job and then I go get it like others do. Cause it's not totally just about sound to me. As soon as I see the amp(or other gear), if it's ugly or too exotic looking, I'm going to forget it exists, no matter how good it is soundwise. No matter how many competitions it's won. No matter what it's price is. That's just the way I am. And I can't just get a plan in mind and stick to it cause my mind is constantly searching for better ways to do things. Save money, get better sound, get better cosmetics in the gear I choose. Something always changes. And that's not even bad in itself cause how many people just build a system and then live with it? If you're seriously into car audio, then no one does. They constantly go from one brand or type to another, and sometimes for no better reason than just because they've never had "one of those" before. My only option is to search out what looks like it will satisfy me and then ask about it individually. So recently I've made lists of the gear that looks appealing to me visually, cause it's ME I gotta please, and then asked how it stacks up to others or by itself to see what people think of it. And of course, I have heard that Profile is not that great before. But even now, some others on here say it's not that bad, and one even said it's getting better and better every year. So why do you get offended by me asking about it now? All you gotta do is just not read it. Not respond. That would be OK with me. How would I know if you even saw it or not, so you don't have to worry about my feelings? The way I see it, if I put up a post and someone else answers it, then that's a conversation between me and as many people who want to talk about it. If you want in, fine, and if not, then go on. As long as I'm not hurting anybody, or cussing, or verbally attacking people, then there's not much anyone can do about it if they just don't like the topic except not read it. audeogod on 02/23/2005 21:01:11 By the way I'll tell ya what really annoys me, since you told me. What really annoys me is that not only here, but in other forums as well.......is when people come on here and try to control what gets posted and what doesn't. You get a few people who frequent the same forum for an extended period of time, and then all of a sudden they think they can control everyone else who comes on and hasn't been around very long. I've seen the same type posts in other forums saying not to repeat questions, or ask about certain things. People get offended cause they see where someone else has compared coaxials to components YET AGAIN. People get offended cause someone asks a question that was just discussed in detail the week before. Then they even get offended cause people talk about certain brands they don't like. It's like they think they are God or something and should be respected to not post about certain things. Hey, if you own the site, then you can do that, but if not then SO WHAT if somebody posts about something you don't care about. Where do you get off saying it annoys you if someone puts up a post you don't like or don't want to read and respond to? No one's making you come on the internet every day and do it. uochronos on 02/24/2005 02:43:38 Big so what the Golds her donate are time it gets very frustrating when on the same day i have to tell 3 differnt people the same basic info... and your very right audeo god noone makes us come on here and donate are time noone makes us respon to anyones post... We however do day after day i spend a good hour or more a day on this board or researching something for people usualy more time then that. It is extremly flusterating when people ask questions that are already in the DIY section or that have been logged in the FAQ section... In short we donate a ton of time an effort here and because of that we recieved Gold status we are a mix of tech support and modarators. we dont just hang out here alot we dedicate alot of are personal free time to helping people like you so please show some respect. swez is right too the way you go about it make it really hard and frustrating to help you. we dont want to not help you but want to make it easiest on everyone who is tryign to help If you said you needed a amp 800-1200watts RMS 2 ohm stable mono amp. you told use you wanted something in the 200-300$ range and needed it to be fairly high end. in return we could withen 15 minuets of looking find a good 15 amps for you.. you can then at your own time go threw them and any that arrent pleaseing to you can be discarded. you listing item after item does get tiring.. i love helping people thats why i do it alls we ask is you help us help you. make it easier on the people helping you. Chronos Victor on 02/24/2005 05:07:19 I knew this matter was gonna fire up.... didnt I ??..swez..?? Victor... swez on 02/24/2005 07:09:47 Well sir, I guess the best thing to do is just not give you any inputs anymore. Most of us Golds come here to serve others... not control them. Unless they get out of control, we try to maintain civility and a spirit of helpfulness to all comers. You mentioned that other sites have tried to "control" others? That's a good indication of a cohesive group of Moderators and Admins. They are trying to address as many info needs as possible, in the limited time they have available. It's about efficiency and effective communication skills. If that is a common theme, the site is probably well managed by the Admin and Mods team. Old Texas Wisdom: If one person tells me... "I am a horse" may think about it a bit and see what I am doing to be called that. If a 2nd person says the same, I better look in the mirror and take a closer look for signs of same. (introspection is a good thing) If a 3rd person says... "I am a horse"..... TIME TO GO SHOPPING FOR A SADDLE. Anyway, have tried to help you many times over the years with car audio issues. Hopefully, it was helpful, curtious and accurate info. However, now I am "asking you" to re-evaluate your approach to topics on this site. It is most helpful when posters ask to the point , succinct questions with adequate details to get the big picture and adequate details. Rambling posts that are long and dis-jointed, make it difficult to discover what the real issue(s) are. I choose not to engage in them. A better approach is a few paragraphs of well thought out questions, are much preferred to long and aimless ones. Any skilled communicator will make his/her point in short order and wait for replies and feedback. Give that strategy a try and see if helps. Finally, am not trying to offend or control you or anyone else here. Just "asking you" to try a new approach as questions are posed. It will help others, to help you in short order. The steps are simple: 1. Get to the point (state the issue(s) in a succinct manner) 2. Clarify the point with adequate details of the issue(s) 3. Avoid rambling on with irrelevant ideas (stay on track) 4. Wait for response and continue dialog as needed until solutions are discovered Hope that is of help, Swez PS I am not putting you down .... am trying to offer you a good heads up as other Golds and members have brought this to my attention a lot of late. They see a problem here and I am trying my best to address it on your behalf. In fact, I have defended you on several points. Being the Pointman on this site, have to bring this issue to a head. Am trying to give news that can be used here... not a personal attack. No, I do not own this site... but have invested years in its development and growth of same. Walt is the last word here... but Ol Swez is the longest standing member in tribunal and also the first Gold member as well. With all that said... I have tried my best to open your eyes. The rest is up to you. danielm87 on 02/24/2005 10:23:29 AudeoGod, you need to swallow your pride and delete this post. Its no big deal, but you really didnt need to comment on what you did. Walt and the Golds actually do own this forum, without them it wouldnt be a forum where you could get quality advice, so please, dont complain, they're here to help! DM Victor on 02/24/2005 14:28:36 "WE DO NOT OWN THIS FORUM" , we are here "JUST TO HELP", We are here to meet new people, to make good friends, we are here to build up a community, We are here to polish our skill, we are here to insure that others dont face the same problems we have faced in car audio, we are here to insure that others dont have to pay as much as we did because of our mistakes. We are here to learn and "LEARNING IS A MUTUAL PROCESS" Victor... danielm87 on 02/24/2005 14:43:56 Right On Brutha montego_27 on 02/24/2005 17:07:19 Victor, Some day you may part the Indian Ocean, and turn sand into curry powder. You da man, good post zInal3 on 02/24/2005 17:27:16 turning sand into curry powder? hehehe Victor is definitely becoming the Master of Asia now SMILE audeogod on 02/24/2005 17:49:45 Well I've never heard of anything like this in my life. Ok here goes. Chronos you responded first so this is to you. Actually what I'm about to say is equated to everyone here though. You said it's frustrating when people ask questions that are already in print and you think they shouldn't be asking them again? Well, if you only want to write it once, then you should just write a book and publish it and then you wouldn't have to come here at all to answer anything. You said you are donating your time? You ain't donating anything. You are here cause you want to be and cause you are feeding a need. It makes you feel good when you are able to answer questions for people who don't know about what they've asked. That's why it's frustrating when you see repeat questions. There's no glory in that. The only favor you are doing for anyone is for yourself when you get to respond and show off with what all you know. It's an ego thing. Anybody who gets online and offers information gets sort of a "rush" out of it every time they do it or they wouldn't do it at all. It's that simple. The only thing that bothers people about what I post is that it's not relating to new topics everytime I put one up. That would allow you to offer new and different information that would again feed that "rushing" sensation. But because you can't, then it's "frustrating". You all may not even be consciously aware of it. Do some re-elavuating of yourselves though and I expect that if you are honest, you will say that you do get something out of coming here to comment on things or you wouldn't do it. You'll know by when you come here and there have been no new posts or posts that you don't want to answer. Then it's disappointing. If you've felt that, then what I said above is true. And of course you'll say, "that's not true, I do it cause I care and like helping people." Well I never denied that. But that's actually why you care and like it. It's cause of the "rush". The rush of looking and feeling important to these people and being a mentor and teacher. Being looked up to. No one can deny that. Hell that's why I do it. So be honest about it at least. If you really just did it cause you cared and liked it, then you'd join the Peace Corps and REALLY help people. But of course, this is easier than that would be. Much easier to obtain the same goal. Feeling needed. Well that's the part that pertains to everybody. Now onto the part that pertains to you. You said the way I ask questions makes it hard to help me? I ain't asking you to spell out my whole system for me. I'm asking you specific questions on whatever topic is posted at the moment, and all you need to do is respond with the appropriate answer. And that's it. Why do I need to tell you the price range and the wattage and the ohm stability of an amp that I'm looking for? I can find an amp that will do all that on my own. I ask questions about specific details that I want to know, or about brand names that may be better and then the answers I get allow me to make my own decisions between one and the other. You don't have to know what I'm doing after that. But again, that goes back to not feeling useful if you can't know what you've helped me with. And yeah, of course I'm right about you don't have to do it. But if you didn't, someone else would, and the questions I ask would be answered by them instead, so whoop-ti-do that you donate your time. If you don't want to do it, then don't. Somebody else will. How's that for making you feel important? Then between Victor's and Swez's comments I can come to the conclusion that a conversation concerning my posts has been held without my knowledge. That's the part I can't believe. Like you even needed to do that. Come on. If you don't like me posting, then IGNORE it. Do you mean to tell me that this upsets you so bad that you had to have a little meeting to try to get something done about it? Is this a club that I need an exclusive membership to to be able to post in here? Do I have to pass a board of examiners first to join? Do we get little paper hats and honorary ranks too? Seriously, I just can't believe that someone would even go far enough to contact anyone else to ask "hey what are we gonna do about this guy? He's posting topic after topic about how Eclipse speakers compare to other brands. This is a catastrophy." Like that affects anything. That's just being a bunch of little kids about this subject. And Swez, you act like that because I said I've seen this on other sites that it was all directed towards me every time. I didn't say that. Not only is it the usual first thing you run into under a permanent post on these type of sites, right at the top of the board, but I've seen it posted to others individually not to post anymore about one speaker compared to another, or ohm load questions or anything cause people get tired of seeing them. That's not always directed towards me. So if anyone needs a saddle, then I'd say it's you for being a horse's ass. You said you've tried to help many times over the years with car audio issues? What issues? Until recently, I haven't really had any issues unless it would be tech problems like noise or small speakers distorting from bass. Never any issues due to shotty gear or cheap stuff. I've had 3 systems. The first was in a 97 Lumina and was Sony Xplod and Panasonic and it all came from Wal-Mart. I had no complaints. I even seriously defended my Sony Xplod choice once when I was attacked personally by someone who had the brass to think that what I said didn't count as much since I liked it. Back then on CK, I was there offering advice, not looking for solutions to current problems. Any problems I ever mentioned were almost always to help friends that I wasn't able to help on my own. The second was in a 92 Topaz and also was all from Wal-Mart except for the Punch amp that I got for the sub. I had no complaints there either. And I built that one when you weren't even in contact with me so what problems did you help me with there? The third is in my truck now, and it's the first one I've had complaints with due to speaker locations and midrange problems. The Sony speakers actually HELPED with that. They did not completely fix the problem but definitely did not cause it. And they came from Wal-Mart too. Only reason I want to upgrade now is cause I'm tired of lower end stuff and maybe I could do even better than I have. But you act like all I've ever had was trouble and it's cause of low end names and you always had to try to help me. Any questions I've ever asked you were geared towards making the system better that it already is, and learning more than I already know. Nothing more. And you also asked me to post more to the point questions. I do. I post them to get to the point that I want to know and nothing else. You don't necessarily have to know what my points are, only I do. All you gotta do is answer the question I ask. I always try to make my questions as simple to understand exactly what I am asking as I can and that's why they end up so long cause I go on and on to make it that way so that there can be no misunderstanding of what I'm asking. If you don't understand exactly why I'm asking it.........so what again. Do you need to? I don't think so. If I ask about frequency ranges of bass, midbass, midrange, and treble, you don't need to know why to answer that question. All you have to do is read it and then answer it straight out. Bass is from 20 Hz to 80 - 100 Hz, midbass is from......get my point? That's not hard to understand at all. But that question went unanswered a couple of weeks ago when I put it up and I was told that it couldn't be answered simply. Yes it can. I have a car stereo guide that answered it just fine. If I'd have made it any simpler to understand, I would have needed to have lowered my IQ to do it. My speaker questions are just as simple too. And so was this amp question that got all this started. You said you weren't putting me down. But you also said not to even mention Wal-Mart as a place to get anything but JUNK. And you know I spent years working there. Well, I didn't mention them in any of my recent posts, but I am now. That was a put down cause you know I've bought there before. And you took that shot even before I mentioned it. Why? There was no need. If you had been reading my last few posts, then you would have seen that I wasn't shopping there for speakers now, or amps now, anyway. You said other golds and members have brought this to your attention that I'm posting alot on this subject. What do you want me to post about? It's a car audio forum. I posted car audio. YOU HAVE NO LEG TO STAND ON TO TELL ME NOT TO DO THAT. Again, all my posts have been for me to gain information to learn from and also make buying decisions. My questions are only about me when I ask that stuff. Not about you. I need not be concerned with what you will think when I post on a subject of car audio, so long as it's not swearing, or personal attacks. So why do you think you need to structure it or control it or bring it to an end? That's so controlling it stinks of it. And you say you're not trying to control me. All my posts are punctuated with periods, commas, quotation marks and other things, with capital letters put in where needed, paragraphs put in where needed, and even spelling is accurate as much as possible. Not to mention I try to make it colorful with slang language and humor to make it interesting reading sometimes. That's all you need and a little more to read it and answer it. No other control measures are necessary. Your own golds can't even all say that(Chronos). And then Daniel tells me I need to swallow my pride and delete this post cause I just didn't need to comment on what I did. Who are you kidding? Yourself maybe. I didn't even start this. Swez was the one who didn't need to comment on anything since I and several others were having a FINE conversation here until he popped in and took a shot like that. Maybe he just gets to "take one for the team" though since he's the Pointman and all. After all, all the rest of you just sent him emails and all to comment on this, but he's the only one who had some brass and would actually say something to me. Meanwhile, you all just went right on answering away at the very questions you had a problem with. But I guess that just goes back to ego again which proves I'm right about the "rush" you get from it. It's either that, or he's just blowing it up saying it was more people commenting to him than it actually was. Either way, by his own words, this place is a tribunal and he's the eldest member. Yeah, I knew those Golds were for more than just honorary status. Well, I'll tell you, I...WILL...NOT...BE...JUDGED. You have no authority to do so. And that's just what you are attemting to do when you try to control anything I post on here. So you all read this, and then you do your "moderator duty" and put on your golds so you can use your tribunal power status to delete it so there is no record and no others who come here will ever know. And I'll leave, now that I've had my say, cause when I've had my say, I usually burn bridges, but that's OK too since I don't look back. Only wipe the dirt off and move foward. Again this is a car audio forum. And it's open to whomever wants to ask anything they want to related to car audio. And there's not much you can do about it if you don't like what they say or how they say it or how many times they ask the same questions. Other than just ignore them, or delete their membership. Even then they can reregister under a different name. So, again, you aren't really the tribunal you're trying to be. It's not a private club that only the ones who play by YOUR rules can join. montego_27 on 02/24/2005 18:17:21 You know I just found out they now sell milk at Wal-Mart. Dude, next time you're in there pick some up,maybe some Oreos too. They go great with issues, cuz MAN you got plenty of em' compvr15s on 02/24/2005 18:21:29 your right we are here to help ppl and it give us pride to contribute our help, i dont think anybody here was tryin to upset you in anyway. the posting is not a problem, we would love if you had 10 posts aday but most of yours relate to the previous topics you have posted, alls we ask is to just put it with an old thread instead of starting a new post that has the same topic, im not tryin to cause problems here, just make them better. hope we get everything worked out danielm87 on 02/24/2005 18:43:59 Yeah "the rush" is true, so what? and the site IS like a tribe, and Swez and walt and the golds are the elders, so what? like i said before you need to swallow your pride and forget whatever is going on in your mind making you think all that crap. We're all here to help each other, and you just tried to screw up the order of things. Didnt your parents teach you respect? So how about you run on over to wal-mart and get those Oreos and a gallon of milk and think it over. I've done drugs before when i was a teen, but SWEET SALVATION how much methamphetamine are you on? have a nice day, Daniel P0werLifter on 02/24/2005 20:41:46 Figured I might as well throw my 2cents in,,,i think those who have said what they needed to say did it in a reasonable,,,respectable fasion. Its you who have taken it to far by taking it way to personal. I totally agree with what everyone else has said, and your right, I do come here to help because i do get a pleasure out of knowing ive helped someone succeed with something or taught them something they can use. Dont confuse it with anything other than a passion of helping others. I do not NEED to be here, I dont waste my time with posts that are posted over and over again by the same person/people if a post has been answered recently regarding the same issue by myself, or another member. If your gonna sit here and throw a fit because the team here is being honest with you, then so be it, but like a parent deals with a child throwing a fit,,,,,They get ignored and we move on. Goodluck with whatever you do Victor on 02/25/2005 00:21:43 Hey guys... I think all of us, i mean "ALL" need to take a chill pill.. cool down guys.. i guess the winters in the american continent is "freezing" up your brains.. Lets forget this issue and think ahead. Afterall he is a part of the family, I know we dont have a right to judge him, but as far as I have tried to understand "audeogod" he seems to be a guy who will understand what we want to explain only with patience and perseverance. "Ignorance" will not help either. So hold back on your guns. Give him some time. LET THERE BE PEACE Victor... uochronos on 02/25/2005 01:26:37 Ya i agree this has turned into way more the it was ever meant to be.. Audeo god swez was trying to help you make it easier for us to help you... nothing more. Obviously you saw ti as an attack and many of the others includeing myself did not help matters.. Your right noone makes me come here i said that... but i'am donating my time... i also donate my time for the "oregon beach clean up" noone makes me go there either but its still a donation of my time for a cause that i think is just. same as here i'm not here to make myself feel better i'm here first to learn new things for myself and second to help others if i see i can. sure i enjoy doing what i do here. Second there was no tribunal so to speak swez is basicaly the second Admin around here after walt the creator of course. so swez keeps an eye on things. Many of us Swez, montego, victor, myself, Powerlifter, Etc all talk to each other not about you but about all kinds of things. thats what victor was speaking of sometime him or swez probaly where talking and mentioned they thought there was better ways for you to ask questions. I really hope we can all get this resolved though because this whole thing blew way out of context... seriously i was never angry though and i wuold like that to be clear that i was never mad at anyone. My biggest issue isnt repeat questions but constant questions... and we all do it it some respect i remember when i first came to CK wow around 3 years ago... anyway i was asking alotm of questions similar to the way you where and swez explained to me a way to make it easier for them to help me. no problem i belive honestrly this was all he was trying to do. you have to understand it makes it far easier for use to help you if instead of asking does profile california make a good amp. and then tommarow asking another amp is good.. if your looking at getting a 4 channel amp need 50watts rms or so. why not tell us that what your looking for instead of asking is profile is a good amp? then we can give you a whole list of them might even fidn one you didnt know exists that you really like.. you can include thinsg like it must be pleaseing to the eye and brands you defiantly dont want etc. then we can help much easier. instead of you needing to post 5+ topics about speakers and amps you can post one adn get many awnsers. see what i mean? i'm not one to force anything on anyone if you dont want to make it easier on us fine then... but in the future i wont be awnsering questions.. i mean if you cant show us the respect we try to show back by at least meeting us on a middle ground or coming up with a better way to get things done. Again we all got way over board on this... i mean lets take a step back and realize none of this was a big deal and we all got carried away. Well i said my peace i'm out. Chronos UKinstaller on 02/25/2005 04:06:33 i can't believe so many innocent characters on computer keyboards have been abused in making this post. WHO CARES. this is the stupidest thing I have ever read. audeogod if you want to ask the same questions about weak ass amps and you trying to save a buck, then sign in as a different person every time. that way, you can ask it over and over again, and nobody will get pissed. everyone would be happy, and the system would once again prevail. i realize i might have just stirred up a dying fire, but since audeogod is gonna go out of his way to make sure that "everyone" in this forum knows that they are some sort of message board monster, then i reserve my right to clown. i don't recall saying anything to piss you off, all i did on this damn post is give you my honest opinion. read it, it's the first reply. but hey if "everyone" sucks then i guess that includes me and everyone else who didn't say anything to you. not to say that what the guys who did comment said should have pissed you off, because it certainly shouldn't have. why should someone get upset over a comment made by a total stranger hundreds of miles away?? WHO CARES. montego what you said was priceless, and accurate too. -UK Victor on 02/25/2005 04:49:43 Wow.. I guess the Gas station is on fire....911... hello..!! hello..!! send in the fire fighters ..with lots of water.. cant fight fire with fire..hehe..lol... lets stop it now.. Victor... gearhead on 02/25/2005 10:17:22 Is this amp any good? Are these speakers any good? What do you think about this brand? Etc., etc., etc., ad infinitum. Yeah. I'm sure many get tired of hearing these types of questions. The only post in the DIY articles that attempts to answer these questions (Should I buy this?) is sketchy, incomplete, and as far as I can tell, outdated. Some of the brands on the "recommended" list, have been "not recommended" by other members of this site in various threads. So how is someone supposed to find out if a particular brand/model is "any good", without asking? Spend days searching through old posts, since the search function on this site doesn't search this site very effectively? There is also a little bit of "brand snobbery" present in many of the recommendations. If my 1st post here had been in the format "I am looking for a good 4 channel amp/speakers/etc.. Power range desired is...xxx watts (I was a total noob, how the heck would I know how many watts or channels I need?), price range is.... $$$, Any thoughts?", none of the components I ended up using would have even been mentioned, let alone recommended (even though my amp WAS on the "recommended" list). I know there are some that are probably snickering at some of my component choices. I'm very happy with my end result, it serves my purposes and listening tastes quite well. I also have less in my WHOLE "system", than the cost ALONE of most of the amps or speakers that were recommended. The only way/reason a component will be "upgraded" at a later date, is if something quits working. Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate all of the help and patience that was provided, especially on the technical/install aspects. But most of the "recommendations" in regards to equipment choice, were not geared to my purpose (Ie: The factory HU is a must, and won't be replaced). It was recommended so many times that I replace the factory HU, that I got tired of restating my reasons for keeping it. Therse are not "complaints", just observations from a noobie. The tech help here IS top notch. The decorum on this site is unparalleled compared to other sites. The FAQ section could probably use a little improvement though, considering the plethora of brands available out there. JMO Victor on 02/25/2005 13:23:32 I get your point.. I am working on a module right now..with the help and recommendations from other members on this forum. This module will be like a form , you will have to fill in the details and post it, I will try to incorporate every aspect of "BUYING" a new product and "SETTIG UP A NEW SYSTEM", This shall be done in a weeks time, hope you guys can wait patiently till then. We are constantly willing to change for the better.. I am also starting up a new post where you can send in your recommendations regarding this. Please be very specific and short while replying to that post. Thanks for your co-operation in advance. comments...?? Victor... uochronos on 02/25/2005 13:58:38 ah gear head but you told us you where not going to change the HU you told us what your application was going to be you told us that you had X amount of money to spend on said item... i remember helping you. You had some difficult issues(keeping the stock hu) to get around but had a goal. and we helped you reach it. thats the problem is awnsering endless questions when with the right info we could come up with a list of items suited to you. literaly either way you can ask questions for weeks and get a awnser or you could take the time to ask one well thought out question get a very good response and then compare the brands you already know if are good.. I would like to point out i awnsered the original question with no guff.. because i knew that that it wasnt worth trying to make it easier on us. its sad this had to happen. *SIGH* Chronos Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
