Need amplifier references

As of now i've sold my entire system and i'm left with a Pioneer DEH-15 H/U and thoughts of what i want next.

I want my new system to knock like crazy....so heres what all i've decided on so far :
- two 12" Eclipse SW9122 subs
- two custom home-built sixth order dual reflex bandpass enclosures.

The subs are 4 ohm DVCs, so with two of them, i'm going to need a 1 ohm stable amp.
The subs are 750w RMS...i'm wanting to feed them a little less than their RMS rating.

(Both subs will be on this single amp)

I'd like some references towards a 1000-1200RMS, 1ohm stable amplifier, class D, for under 300$.

The only thing i've found that i like so far is the Audiobahn A12001DT.

Thanks for the help!
Daniel

you can get an avionixx Class T 1200.2 amp for 200-300$ on ebay... i have one and it can put out 1000-1400watts rms i lvoe mine.

Its 4 ohm stable but that well work to. it puts out th 1400watts RMS at 4 ohm... its a class T so its just as efficient as a mono amp.

I am not concerned with the product selection you are doing here...

BUT........

WHY..?????? 6th order bandpass ???? do u know the pro's and con's of that particular alignment,,,,??

The transient performance of 6th order bandpass systems is usually worse than the sealed, ported and 4th order bandpass systems, making it more suitable for sound reinforcement, multimedia and other less critical applications, rather than high-end audio. Like ported systems, the driver becomes unloaded at frequencies lower than the passband.

Very difficult to design properly. You may have to experiment for months before getting this design to sound acceptable.

the 6th order bandpass system rarely exhibits a perfect bandpass response - there is usually some out-of-band noise present in its output.

Also the size consideration should be counted in, because 6th order bandpass enclosures tend to be huge boxes.

I suggest you think over this issue once more before u finally decide over it..

How much do you plan on spending on this system? Those subs are NOT cheap by any means, brand new from a internet retailer ive found em for $399 per 12 for the exact model you've listed above. Grandit im sure you can find them maybe cheaper, but at the same time, if your going to spend that amount of money for subs....why skimp on the budget for the amplifier?

You wouldnt buy a porshe and fuel it with 87octane would you? I know i wouldnt.

Also, id reccomend rethinking you enclosure choice here, many more options with a wider passband that will knock just as hard

Agreed! A 6th order BP system is very difficult to build and tune for a wide enough band in the bass region. A ported or vent slotted enclosure would be much easier to fabricate and take up less space.

Also, if you intend to run them at a 1 ohm load, look at HiFonics. Off the Zeb site:

http://www.thezeb.com/p-Hifonics-NX750D-Mono-Subwoofer-Amplifier-101732.htm $199.00

This amp is class D, 1 ohm stable and 750 Wrms. They have larger amps too. But not at Zeb.

I figure 300 dollars for the subs, why not 300$ on the amp.
I can usually get more than what i pay for on Ebay, so no worries, and no i dont mind spending 500$ on the amp.

Yeah i've heard some nasty stuff about 6th order BPs....hehe sorry for even mentioning it!!!!
I'll definitely go with a ported box.

I think i'm gonna go with this kicker amp, will give them 600w RMS a peice.

Would be just under 300$ total shipping included....
Does Kicker make a good amplifier?

I suggest you dont go for 1 ohm load and use 4 ohm loads..

There is one by PA which gives 900wrms@ 4 ohm.and in your budget too..

Have a look.

or use 2 smaller monoblocs to power each sub seperately @ 2ohms..

choice is yours.. but if it was me i would definitely avoid the 1ohm load simply because of the loss of SQ, You will get the same SPL with 1ohm, 2ohm or 4ohm load provided the power in all the contidions to the subs remain the same ( interms of wrms), then why compromise on SQ..

comments...??

Victor, there arnt any problems running a woofer or amplifier at 1ohm load. Grantid there is a slight increase in distortion but it is not audiable to the ear at the lower Hz (Subwoofer use), I run my current setup at 1ohm and have heard no difference between 1, 2, 4, or 8ohm. Running at 1ohm if it suits the amplifier and the woofer can really extract all the power that is available by the amplifier to give your woofer what it needs.

Just my 2cents

uochronos on 02/23/2005 12:55:54
i agree with PL below 200hz your nto going to notice a bit of added distotion from 1-4ohm is going to be relativly similar...

most human ears wont detect a differnce in my opinion.

I dont like the thought of paying 300 dollars for Power Acoustik ANYTHING. I judge brands by the CK article "Should i buy This?".

PA is on the Bad list.
I'm definitely not an SQ guy, so if the SQ will diminish from a 1 ohm load, bring it on.

Thanks for everyones input, the Kicker amp is still got 1st place in my choosing options right now.

Dont neccessarily hate on PA. Ive ran their MOFO Series subs b4 and were impressed with the output and quality for the price. I'm also running their PA 3000dB amplifier and im satesfied with the performance. I will be investing in a Orion amplifier soon for more power.

For the price, PA is a fine brand. Speaking ofcourse by owning their product compared to others who dish it but have never heard, or used the product b4. Ofcourse there are other bands out there that can offer more, and ofcourse there are bands that offer less performance. PA is not the top, nor the bottom of the spectrum here, they are in the middle.

Hmm, interesting.
Yeah i wouldnt diss their subs, but i'll take your word for it PL.

I've had several friends with Power Acoustik amps that bought one for cheap on Ebay and thought they were top of the line. I told them otherwise, but then again, those same amps are still running perfectly to this day. heh

I've already decided to buy the Kicker KX1200.1

Thanks Ladies,

Daniel
