Lightning Audio 15" Bolt subs. I have the woofers bridged because one of the channels on the amp is out. The woofers are 4ohm and the amp is also bridgeable down to 2ohms. I have it mounted upside down in the trunk and sometimes when I turn a corner the amp shuts off then comes back on. The speakers are wired in "series" formation and the power and ground wires to the amp are 8 gauge with an 80 amp big-blade fuse on the power wire. Replies (3) Swez on 07/6/2003 21:38:51 One dead channel on amp eh? OK, can use remaining channel for now and if you wire your subs in parallel, will get a 2 ohm load to that single channel. That is ok and safe to do for most output to subs. Got #8 gage wire there... that will take you up to ~40 amperes (300 watts RMS or so) of current flow and change that 80 amp fuse to a 40A one... If you get a short, the wire insulation can burn and cause a fire before that 80A fuse blows. DANGER NOTICE!!! Change that 80A fuse ASAP OK? Your amp is cutting out when you take corner turns... check for loose wires to amp or poor ground wire here will do that. Inspect all wire connections to the amp and make sure these are all tight and well secured. If the sub box or amp slides about as you drive, this can strain power, ground & remote wire connections to create this issue. Swez PS Your wires may look secure, but if you tug on them a bit and the amp cuts out, there is your problem! ryan on 07/6/2003 23:52:52 Also I've heard that if you mount ur amp upside down it causes it to heat up faster and then of course it goes into protection mode. I think thats what happened with my Kenwood amp. So you might want to put the amp somewhere else if you play it for a long period of time. Tray on 07/7/2003 15:10:25 Well, the upside down mounting does not really affect anything other than it's location. True, if you mount the amp so that the heat sink goes directly into the floor, yes it will heat up quicker. But if you have it mounted upside down to say the underside of the rear deck, you should get adequate, if not better, air flow and no problems. As far as the wiring, also make sure you don't have anything else sliding around which could be bumping your connections. (Golf clubs, sporting equipment, spare tire, jack, clothing, and many other unmentionable items which could possibly be kept in the trunk. And I have to reiterate what Swez said. Please get a smaller fuse as soon as physically possible. And if the problems with the amp cutting out continue, I would recommend possibly even going to 35A until the problem is remedied.
