I've been checking out their subwoofers, they seem to be a really reputable and rare company. I havent heard much talk about Eclipse, are they worth paying the $$$ for?

In particular i'm thinking about buying the SW9152.
Looks like a whoopa** woofer if you ask me.
Comparable to a W7 ??

Their prices seem reasonable also, i'd like to see what others think about Eclipse subs....any past or current owners?

Also, on their website, they say that for the 15" SW9, the one way Xmax is 1.75" !!! That cant be true...44.5mm one way!
Kill me if its true, but in all aspects, they look like high quality subs.....
Opinions...facts....comments.....

The Aluminum woofers are great, the titanium are basically higher power handling. Here's an overview:

7300 series...about the best sound quality you could justify in a woofer. anything more expensive (from eclipse) would be wasted money or achieve only more power handling. The 7500 series is a good choice as well.

9100 & 9100 Pro...just more power handling. 7100 series a minor power handling improvement from the 7300, and if you got the money, I'd stop there on my purchasing decision.

It's about what you are looking to achieve. The 9100 pro are basically all about power handling and SPL. SQ takes a back door, no matter how you slice it because you need so much power to operate that woofer, you've already reached maximum audible thresholds of pain before you get your money's worth.

If looking for SPL, it's one of many great woofers.

My best friend has the Eclipse Aluminum subs in his dodge, They are excellent woofers and sound awesome. Great company highly reputable. Cant go wrong really with eclipse as long as you have a big pocket book.

Big thanks to Mr. B for that overview.
I'm looking for a single 15" sub that, in a large ported enclosure, will grab at least 130dB, not for competition, i'm simply addicted to SPL/rumbling bass.
My Bahn AW1206T just didnt cut it. Today i have a friend coming over to buy the whole setup....which leaves me to start from scratch.
I was really attracted to the 9100 non-pro series for the beefiness and large surround and good Xmax. I definitely dont want the pro series, i'm running stock ALT.
Should i splurge 315 bucks for the SW9152?
Or will the 7100 & 7300 models suit?
Keep in mind i want the maximum SPL that Eclipse has to offer that is under 1000w RMS.

Thanks Mr. B

PL, i think 315$ for that 15" is respectable, certainly more appealing than 500$+ for a W7 that might not satisfy my needs as well. I'd be more than happy to fork over 300 bucks for one good sub!

have you ever heard the w7 danielm? dont underestimate it. its nice becuase it dont take 1500 watts to power it to full potenital. for only being 13inches it definitly moves some air, i have 2 15inch compvrs, my system is pretty loud, i heard the w7 in their slot port HO box and that was in the open shop and i bet it was as loud as my sytem. dunno maybe it was just the box but it really moves air, i agree id never spend 700 on a sub, but im sure the RE XXX and the adire audio brahma will preform better than the w7 in a box that is designed right, and they are both 350 dollars cheaper. just sumtin to think bout

uochronos on 02/21/2005 13:51:43
the 13W7 is by far the most impresive overal Car subwoofer i have ever heard period... i have heard few subs louder or cleaner and never any that where both. they are worth every7 penny even though i cant afford one... but if i could i would buy one without even thinking about it.

Ya i hear ya Comp.....
oh Lord yeah i've got hundreds of friends with 13W7s and 12W7s and W6v2s......i agree they hit loud and dont need lots of juice but to fork over a whole paycheck for a name, low power handling/high output, a hidden mounting ring, and other JL Audio "technology", just doesnt appeal to me.
I'll take my chances hunting for the rare high quality subs like Adire and Eclipse that are 500$ cheaper and the same or higher quality.

I actually own a new Brahma Mk2 15", but i've decided to sell it and hunt down a big SPL sub for daily driver use that i will really be satisfied with......using the money from the Brahma sale, i want to buy a good Eclipse....9100 non-pro series.
Ya think i'll be satisfied?
gonna build a 2-4CF ported box.

uochronos on 02/21/2005 14:01:18
i would at least take a listen to the Brahama i cant imagine anyone not ebing happy with the bass from there. the brahma well get loud enough that its not really safe to be in the car anyway.

just my 2 centws though

Hehe yeah i know, i plopped it in my 3.5CF ported box, tuned to 36Hz, i was using for my old Bahn.........SWEET JESUS......the SQ was ridiculous and it was by far one of the loudest and clearest subs i've ever heard. With 800w RMS, i got the cone moving about 2.5 inches....but i got a headache after half an hour of listening to rap. Too much for me. I love SPL, but that was overkill....spare me!!

Yeah anyhow i still didnt get the low frequency rumble from it, thats why i want to get a good SPL sub and be content with an above average, but not outrageous system.

uochronos on 02/21/2005 14:21:11
if you want low rumble bot not outreagous haev you heard a Alpine type R 15? one or a pair of those can rumble for relativly cheap... or the new alpine type X 15 could probaly rumble good. basicaly same driver as type R with mroe power handling and excursion..

danielm87 on 02/21/2005 14:25:32
Thanks but no thanks Chronos, i've had 2 Type-Rs before in a sealed box, was my first system, even then i wasnt impressed.
4 systems and several installs later, i'm looking forward to having a rare and expensive SPL sub that will be sure to satisfy, hopefully thats what i'll get. As long as i can get the enclosure and install right.

Thanks everyone

uochronos on 02/21/2005 14:37:10
oh ok what you said was confuseing sounded like you decided to go with a simpler system instead of an insane bass system... my bad.

Yeah i'm definitely looking for something serious that will outperform my previous setup, a Bahn AW1206T in a 3.2 ^3ft enclosure.
Its funny how much money i've spent just learning what different types of subs sound like.
Now i know about everything having to do with installs and enclosures and subs, thanks to this site actually. Looking back, i think, man if i only wouldve spent more time online learning everything my very first system couldve been a couple Eclipse 15"s or some Adire Kodas, or a XXX... woulda been nice, money well spent.
But i guess thats just how it works

P0werLifter on 02/21/2005 15:28:11
Why are you looking for something different from the 15" Brahma? The brahma will pull 130 easy in the right enclosure? why sell it if you have a pefectly capable sub here?

uochronos on 02/21/2005 15:29:00
you know i was looking at some wierd brands massive SPL subs the other day.... i well see if i can find them again...

Personally... If I wanted SQL in my car i would go for 2 Alpine type X SWX-1242D 12" subs in a 1.3 cu ft box each.

Each powered by Alpine MRD-M1001 1000wrms @ 2 ohms..

Victor...

That is all i can offer in the SPL range.. not my cup of tea.. more of an SQ guy.. i like SPL sometimes tho.. but not pure SPL..hehe.. there always has to be a lot of clearity in whatever i listen to.

MrBrownstone on 02/21/2005 15:56:45
Word to the wise, Mr B hit 139.6 on the dash with the Alpine 6963 6x9s in 1992 or 1993...so hitting 130dB isn't really that special. 148.6 with 2 Audiobahn AW1200s in 2000, so it's about installation, not equipment.

However, for daily listening, 1 15" woofer or 2 12s I'd still look at 2 12s from a lesser series. More surface area on 2 12s and probably about the same box space. Get 2 12s from a lesser series unless you're planning to upgrade.

danielm87 on 02/21/2005 16:08:09
PL, that Brahma just wasnt for me. I really cant explain it, but it just WASNT. Although loud as heck, nonetheless.

Mr. B, yeah i know 130dB isnt something to brag about, thats why i said "at least" 130.

I'm definitely not an SQ guy, cant hardly tell the difference to tell you the truth. I simply want a daily driver system that will grab anywhere from 130-150 and hit low as a mofo.
I guess the thing is, i'm just itching to complete another project and i want the sub to be rare and the install to be clean.

If all the other reasons dont make sense, then i simply want to try out an Eclipse sub! After all, thats the whole reason i made the thread.

uochronos on 02/21/2005 16:34:47
the reason you didnt get the super deep bass with the brahama the box you put it in is tuned to 35 hz and cut off there. the bass that really hits you in the chest and that you can just feel more then hear is like 25-40hz. and your blocking everything below 40hz... like Mr.B said its 90% install... design a large box bigger then the 3.5 cubes tuned to say 25 hz and built well. you can hit 135+ and get that super low bass your looking for... no matter what sub you put in your current box if you wanna get the supper low rumbling bass you need to change PTF.

AHH screw it....i might just keep the Brahma.

happy??!! hehe

It'll give me a chance to enjoy SQ more anyways.
Now i gotsa build the new box.
