Hey whats up guys, For those of you who wanted to see the end result of the hardwork and time ive put into the most recent install heres a link to a forum where i have posted all my pics and have some info regarding the install. http://forum.sounddomain.com/forum/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=11&t=077317 Any questions, comments are welcome and you can post them here, or if your registered on the forum, u can post there also. -PL CLAP Replies (22) uochronos on 02/18/2005 19:29:44 very impresive PL buitifull job on the whole install... Chronos danielm87 on 02/18/2005 23:06:21 I'm stunned. Its BEAUTIFUL. Very creative box... nice work with everything....squeezed in nicely i see. Pretty glass work and tight amp rack. Sheds new light on PL, cool to see what you've been up to lately. Good luck in the lanes man! audeogod on 02/18/2005 23:28:31 Dude that is so professional looking that if I hadn't seen the pictures, I'd swear you paid it to be done. Your first job! WOW! Just one question though. How do you adjust any of the amp's gains or bass boost or any of that? The amps look recessed into the enclosure and no room to get at the sides of them. danielm87 on 02/18/2005 23:34:07 Once you set it correctly, you normally dont change it unless you're changing HU or subs....and i certainly wouldnt want to change anything in that system! Bass boost causes distortion with more than ~3dB, no need to change it from day to day. Gains are set and they stay that way unless you change the HU. Great setup PL, props from everyone! audeogod on 02/18/2005 23:38:27 I'd say you better get some dark window tint and a phat alarm system, cause around where I live, that would be gone in a matter of minutes if you parked it in a mall parking lot and went in shopping. To lose that to a thief would be a shameful sin. danielm87 on 02/18/2005 23:55:55 Such a shame that scumbag bastards dont know any better than to do things like steal stuff. AudeoGod, where do you live, Compton, the Bronx, or Harlem? I'd say screw it in tight and use public screws.....the type that can only fasten in but not out.....you see them in public bathroom stalls. LOL then PL wouldnt be able to get it out himself. Alarm systems help, but useless when you're in the mall and the dudes already gone with your stuff, gotta hope that a bystander gives a hoot about your things. Tint would help totally. Whats your current "security" setup PL? I would tie a big long stretchy string to the sub and my wrist when in public and keep it in the garage avoiding theives at all time. That is, of course, if i lived in one of those scumbag "City" areas. Tennessee.....perfect for everyone! audeogod on 02/19/2005 00:15:43 Actually, I live near Ashland, KY. You'd think that around here there would not be much going on. It's kinda quiet mostly. But theivery and vandalism is bad here. It's not a really urban area, but not too rural either. Just busy. Enough that there's a few people around just about all the time, but not enough so that someone would always see what's going on when somebody's breaking out your window and stealing your gear. Plus we don't have a lot of audio shops around, but we do have a lot of rednecks around, and many do not care if the stuff they buy is hot or not. $20 bucks to some guy they don't know, and they got a new system going. They don't care if you miss it or not. They will still buy. I see it everyday. I have no respect for it either. I will not buy hot stuff. P0werLifter on 02/19/2005 00:19:46 LOL thanks guys, Yah im starting to do more work for other people around here. Current rate is $15 an hour + materials. Doing a fiberglass install on an 03mustang with a false floor here pretty quick and if that turns out like i have it in my head, then many more to come. As far as the amprack, there are 4 screws that hold it in, underneath the caps that are matched vynal. All i have to do is pop it the cap off and unscrew the amprack cover to get to the gains. Not only that, but the Alpine amplfier i remove 2 allen screws on top and a cover comes off to access the gains, xovers, etc. As far as my security, My woofer and amps are screwed down using special screws with a special bit i had to order online, I have double 5% limo tint on the back and 2 side windows, then 20% on the front. Soon to have an alarm but at my house....Ive got my American Bulldogg...and my 12guage to thwart any theives that venture to steal my stuff at night. Its going to take quite a while to get anything i have in there out. Wait till i start doing more installs,,ill have more pictures because im starting to do a portfolio of my work so i can maybe get hired at a custom audio shop. Thanks Again and any more questions / comments are welcome -PL danielm87 on 02/19/2005 00:23:52 Interesting area audeo....right on the border. Well i'm down in Karns, little town right outside of Knoxville. Notorious for it hillbilliness. No theives round here. The real crime is parents who raise kids so pitifully allowing their depraived brains not to be able to function enough to make the connection between right and wrong.....especially when that person is fooling with an RE XXX! not to mention a very nice box....not that somebody stole it or anything..lol Yo PL, i like the security system. At home, some ballistic 12 guage 8 ball turkey shot will put theives in their place if they trespass! (overkill, there wouldnt be anything left for the cops!) I'd like to see some of your installs, i hope you find a good camcorder instead of yur fone! Peace P0werLifter on 02/19/2005 00:34:46 Haha, thats next on the list after a new Amplifier...a good Cam haha Victor on 02/19/2005 00:50:57 Nice Install 'PL' .. Keep on growing, Looking at this work it seems very apparent that you can do better.. Victor... P.S. Wish you best luck in the lanes.. swez on 02/19/2005 10:13:33 PL, Very nice job here... Can ya make more audio coffins like that and make a profit? Seems like a very labor intensive process... but the results are stunning to the eye and as you say, sounds great too. Good work and hope you can get into custom sub enclosures and dump your day job eventually. When we get paid to work with our passions and skills... one happy man! Swez PS How much time and materials $$$ do ya think this job took? Ball park is fine... figure $10.00/hr. on labor. As you were on a high learning curve with the glassing process. Just curious? P0werLifter on 02/19/2005 12:32:27 This project wasnt cleap at all due to the size and amount of materials involved in making such a large enclosure. Ive learned some different ways to go about things as to lower the amount of materials overall to lower the cost to manufacture for future projects. Materials are as follows (Ball park on price) (2) 4x8 Sheets 3/4 MDF 25x2 = $50 (4) Yds Molding Fabric $45 (4) Gallons Fiberglass Resin w/ catalyst 4 x 45 = $180 (1.5) Gallon Bondo $30 (1) Quart high fill Primer (1) Quart Automotive paint (1) Quart Clear Coat Reducer, Thinner, Misc Paint = $140 (20) Cheap 2" Paintbrushes 20x1 = $20 As far as time Spent on this project: Hard to really caculate as I spread it out over a month pretty much inbetween work and school If i had to, I could get it completed within 3-4days in the summer with the warm air Total Cost in materials (Guestimate) $465 not inculding labor Major cost factor here is Fiberglass due to the large amount that went into this enclosure. The interior is also fiberglassed 3/4" thick around where the enclosure rises from the MDF skeleton. I Mixed the Fiberglass Resin with Resin Expander (silica powder) to create a very thick (almost bondo like) paste that allows me to paint it on very thick and build up and drys rock solid. montego_27 on 02/19/2005 23:17:52 montego_27 on 02/19/2005 23:19:58 This would be my theft deterrent solution for your set-up http://www.m90.org/view_image.php?image_id=3011 Faded on 02/20/2005 00:04:17 dude i have seen that pic before like a long long time ago the one at the top with the dog in it P0werLifter on 02/20/2005 01:17:36 Faded....that would be because i posted that picture a long...long time ago...whats ur point? I put up old pictures as a way to guage and show the work was all mine Faded on 02/20/2005 01:25:28 ok i just thought i saw that somewhere else wasnt trying to make u angry P0werLifter on 02/20/2005 05:05:53 Language plays a key part in the forum. Being Short, and starting off with "Dude, I have seen that pic before like a long long time ago" doesnt sit right with me and im sure many others would feel the same way. In essence ur sentence would seem like i was lying. Maybe im just tired, its been a long day The only place i posted pictures of the build was on sounddomain and possibly on here. That was a long time ago. Maybe someone copied my picture? its possible Victor on 02/20/2005 14:05:33 I remember PL posting a link to some of those pics on CK like 3-4 months back.. dont exactly remember when... At that time the project was on basic stages and he had just fabricated the enclosure.. no paint, no install .. he had just posted pics of the enclosure being made.. Thats all I can remember.. Victor.. MrBrownstone on 02/21/2005 12:31:42 Swez was just asking about the audio coffins because he has a request to fill for an ex-wife. He'll pay double if you put her in it first! :-) Nice work, my friend. So much for Ghetto install. That one's fine work. Took a ton of time, I'm sure. Did you get really high from the fiberglassing? P0werLifter on 02/21/2005 13:03:03 Boy howdy did I ever, with as much glass I put into that, i was flying high for a while hahaha. After a while I noticed I couldnt smell it anymore or when I did I started to think "hey this doesnt smell so bad anymore".....Thats when you know you've been glassing to much hahaha Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
