Hey this might be kinda repetitive since I keep asking the same type thing, but I dont think I really got an answer before. Basically, I'm just lookin for something to fill in the lows, cuz right now, my system is mostly high freq., and I just need some punch. So, Here is my current set up, I hope you can help. Thanks ___________________________________________________ HU: Pioneer DEH-P3700MP CD/MP3/WWA Receiver 6.5'' Comps: CDT Audio CL-61A 6-1/2" Component System 4'': JBL GTO426 ___________________________________________________ Replies (16) uochronos on 02/18/2005 18:52:06 From what i have seen you like a single 10 or 12" sub well do you fine in a good sealed box.. may i suggest the follwoing Alpine type S 12" or 10" Adire Audio 12" Shiva Infinity Referance 10" Elemental designs K series 10" or 12" all those are above average SQ subs that can hit low and still get loud without giving up much sound quality. really choosing an amp needs to be done after choosing a sub but in the 200watt rms ran we can find you a realativly cheap amp that well push any of those subs with a bit of shopping. Chronos Mr._Miyagi on 02/18/2005 18:53:58 aight thanks Chronos, I shall look into those tonight. Mr._Miyagi on 02/18/2005 20:51:49 should I be looking at the 2 ohm or 4 ohm models? whats the diff? Mr._Miyagi on 02/18/2005 21:41:37 Right now, these are my favorites... Adire Audio 12" Shiva $125 11Kv.2 Subwoofer $115 13Kv.2 Subwoofer $125 even with these is it still possible to power these for less then 200 total? uochronos on 02/18/2005 21:53:49 yes sor SQ application 200 watts well work fine as long as its clean with the proper enclosure of course. its more about clean power then how much withen reason... as long as your not grossly under powering it or giving it a rough signal you well be fine and we can walk you threw setting that up. honestly out of those if it where me i would go with the shiva just my 2 cents from what i hear they are amazing subs... swez did and install for someone with them and it was good for the price he said i belive. I have a old K series myself though as well and its a Solid sub. Chronos uochronos on 02/18/2005 21:54:40 also dual 4ohm or single 2ohm voice coils are preferable.. because you can use a mono block amp then. Chronos Mr._Miyagi on 02/18/2005 22:20:52 is the Shiva 2 or 4 ohm i cant seem to find the info. Also could u perhaps recommend a specific Amp that would fit the requirements? swez on 02/18/2005 22:32:44 Yep. I designed and built a custom sealed enclosure, using dual 12" Shiva's and he had a 600 Wrms Sony Mono amp. The box was 1.5 cf per sub, per his request. I wired these subs to match a 2 ohm load for that amp and installed same. I did test the system initially on a Peavey CS-800 Pro-lone amp. Was about 250 Wrms @ 2 ohms and the box sounded very good in the deep lows department. In my opionion, a smaller box (1.0 -1.25 cf/sub) would have netted less boomy bass and tighter upper bass. But, that is what the buyer wanted, so I did as he asked. Installed into his Chrysler Concorde sedan and gave it a few good cuts of his fav Rap & Hip-Hop tunes. Definitely some strong bass here, when he flipped one seat down to expose the subs to trunk and cabin. A bit boomy for my HSQ tastes... but he was very happy and went home proud of the new found bass. Now, in your case, I see very good comps in the CDT's. They should be pretty good SQ for now, but they really need more than HU amping to get them to what they are able to do. (75-100 Wrms/ channel) Usable frequency range is pretty much 60 Hz - 20Khz. The 4" GTO's are decent midrange speakers. These can be used as rear fill or front Comps, if you have decent tweeters for them. Again, some amping is a good idea. These are smaller drivers and best used at frequencies above 100 Hz. (perhaps higher) Now, we/I always stress planning ahead for future upgrades. That often entails a decent 4 channel amp and adequate bass system as well. In this case, finding a solid Class D power amp for your sub(s) is the next step. I would not suggest an amp less than ~250-300 Wrms @ 2 ohms, for your subs. Do not use a 2 channel sub amp as they draw too much power as compared to Class D & T monoblocks. Some good brands to look at: JBL, Alpine, Infinity Reference series, Phoenix Gold, Orion, Power Acoustik, HiFonics, MA Audio and many others. Getting a well known brand at the lowest prices, will take some careful shopping. I can see a 300 Wrms mono amp under $200, but then a decent sub will set you back $75- 125.00/each. E-bay and Overstock.com are good places to look for quality products at well below retail prices. Can consider a clean used amp or even factory refurbished models at very good discounts as well. Avoid off brands and cheap knock offs like Sound Storm, Road Gear, Rockwood, and DHD or Thump. Once you have a good amp in mind, then we can look for sub(s) that will mate well to that amp. Infinity Ref series, Alpine SWS, e-Designs, Adire and many others are useful. Just depends on your budget, space for box and other preferences. How does that square in your mind? Swez PS Take a systematic, long term approach to building a system you will love for many years. Go cheap now... you will wind up trashing bad choices and upgrading many times. That makes overall costs and labor time, a very lose-lose deal. Mr._Miyagi on 02/18/2005 22:43:09 Alright so i'm gettin mixed messeges here, I hope swez or chronos or anyone can clear this up. Chronos told me to find a sub and then match to an Amp but Swez is sayin the opposite. If it is as Chronos says, I like the Adire Shiva, as for the amp, i know these things cost money but I was really hoping to spend $200 total, so if I got the Shiva ($125) that only leaves $75 for the amp. Is there something decent in that range? Thanks danielm87 on 02/18/2005 23:25:31 It'll work either way, you can start with amp(s) or sub(s). Its up to you....spend wisely...they can help you out with the money issue. Theres always the lovely Ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3275&item=5752477692&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW If you dont bid until the last few seconds, i wouldnt be surprised if you got that for under 80$.....thats the secret to Ebay, if you want to win a bid for cheap, dont start bidding when its got 2 days left, wait til the last 10 seconds and you will be astonished at how cheap you will get stuff!!!!! Not an idea for the good citizen or the christian in us, but its crazy how cheap stuff is if you just use your brain! Daniel swez on 02/18/2005 23:25:45 Sorry for the confussion Mr. M. Both Chronos and I are looking at the same issue from 2 differing perspectives. Neither option is right or wrong... just coming at the issues from a different vantage point. If you are looking for just 1 sub, I would not suggest the Shiva as it is an 8+8 DVC. The lowest ohmic load you'll get is 4 ohms... period! Also, there are many good subs out there for less than $100.00. That would leave you more for a decent sub amp. A solid, low budget subs: Infinity Ref 1232W (4+4 DVC) Alpine SWS-1242D (4+4 DVC) http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=1137341 http://www.nextag.com/serv/main/buyer/outpdir.jsp?nxtg=53dd84_5C1A17A4C61CA8CF&search=alpine+sws-1242d Both subs are rated at 300 Wrms, are 2 ohms in parallel and well under $100.00. If you shop harder off e-bay or such, can bring that price down a tad more. Then comes the hard part... finding a decent amp, with what you have left. We can scrimp on the sub and still get good results. Don't scrimp on the amp. There are 2 very good subs at under $100.00. Find a mono amp that can deliver 250-300 Wrms into a 2 ohm load and you will have a nice, (but modest) bass machine. Happy shopping, Swez Mr._Miyagi on 02/19/2005 00:06:00 alright thanks uochronos on 02/19/2005 00:06:53 oh ya sorry there Mr.M for the mix up swez is right though we where just comeing at the problem in differnt directions... again swez is right the shiva is only going to get a 4 ohm load which i had forgoten so the Elemental designs K series may be a better choice. Mr._Miyagi on 02/19/2005 00:09:22 for the Alpine, there is a dual 4 ohm and dual 2 ohm version. Which one do I want? uochronos on 02/19/2005 00:10:17 dual 4 ohm so you can get a 2ohm load fior a mono amplifier. Chronos Mr._Miyagi on 02/19/2005 00:10:39 alrighty thanks Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
