Hmmm Im stumped (help plz) Amplifier Trouble

hey whats up guys, Ive got a problem here and im stumped.

I did an install for a buddy of mine about 3 mos ago and it was working fine..we'll this weekend when he came home, his little cousin was in his truck and apparently was screwing with the gains on his deck, turned everything up max.

When my buddy got back into the truck (he wasnt aware of his lil cousin messing with everything) he put in a bass CD he just bought and started to play it. He noticed that the bass was very loud compared to usual but thought maybe it was the bass CD since it is focused on...well...bass haha. Well after a couple mins his sub crackled and whammy it was fried. He took it out and smoke billowed from the enclosure. (obviously he clipped the hell out of is and toasted it).

He went out and purchased another woofer of the same model, put it back in and started to play it. After a couple minutes he said he was driving and hit a bump in the road then the sub crackled and the amplifier went into protection mode.

He's tracked every wire we've put in to make sure there is no shorts in the system and has also narrowed the scope of things a bit. According to him, when he runs a wire straight from the batt to the rem terminal it turns on and runs fine, but the second he puts a REM wire from the deck the fuse on the amp blows, not sure why it would work this way unless theres a short somewhere within the deck but even then the deck wouldnt work correctly right?

I'm stumped here guys, he took the amp cover off lastnight and checked it out there were no burnt compnents and didnt smell like anything was fried.

Got any ideas?

Check the REM voltage off HU and see what is coming up there. It should be ~12 volts between REM & Ground. If much less than about 10 volts, damaged REM power supply.

Also, may have to go back and do a new setup on HU tone controls and amp gains. The sub crackling.... either the amp is not getting a clean signal to the sub or there may be damage to enclosure or wire termination lugs at enclosure. Also look for loose fitting RCA's into the sub amp.

Hope that helps,
Swez

PS I would go back to lil cousin's parents and ask them to foot the bill for damages and costs of the new sub and any other costs associated with repairs. Little fry is obviously not to be trusted in the vehicle alone.

K ill have em check that out, yah if small fry did that in my truck...his parents would be fronting the bill or they'd be in Small Claims Court GRIN.
