Over the past month, i've been VERY surprised at the SQL of my Audiobahn AW1206T. It is indeed an SPL sub, but it also hits accurately during quick-beat bass test songs and anything with a very very quick beat, it will keep up! I'm feeding 800rms watts to it @ 2 ohms hooked up to a Coustic 801DB amp, the older model. Its in a recently home-built box, 3.6(ft^3) including displacements. When playing rap such as Petey Pablo - Rep Yo City, i can turn and look at the cone moving, and watching the raised Audiobahn emblem in the cone's center, it will move upward from the resting point a full inch and a quarter. Now i know that the rated Xmax for the sub is 18mm, but uhh, it moving a lot more than that. I understand that what i'm seeing might not be XmaX, but why is it moving so much air? (not complaining, i think its awesome!) HAPPY I also understand that when a sub is fed frequencies below PTF the excursion can go crazy, but i assure you, the box is tuned to 36 hertz and the SS filter is set at 40Hz. The LPF is at 100Hz. There is also NO distortion at all.....crazy! Is something wrong or does Audiobahn just over-rate efficiency ratings and under-rate Xmax? Thanks a bunch, Daniel Replies (6) uochronos on 02/17/2005 17:09:25 below PTF the sub hardly moves at all thats why it damages the sub it cant cool itself as for Xmax is that 1 way xmax? remember the sub moves in and out not just out.. Also SQ isnt how fast the sub responds it is how accuratly the sub reproduces the music... the idea of SQ is for it to sound as close to the original sound as possible... i can hear drum solo's on my system like i was standing 10 feet from a drum set... I have listened to many Bahn subs and have honestly yet to hear a single one event he aluminum Q series that can compete with a alpine Type R on SQ and the type R wasnt good enough in my opinion. Chronos danielm87 on 02/17/2005 18:16:53 I know what SQ is, i was only giving an example of what the sub does in that circumstance. It does have decent SQ though. The given 18mm is one way linear throw, i beleive. Audiobahn doesnt state anything about Xmax other than 18mm. I know what SQ is, thank you for clarifying though! :) I dont understand what youre trying to get across in that last paragrph cuz of some letters missing or grammar. i dunno Thanks uochronos on 02/17/2005 20:30:38 if its 18mm one way then your getting more liek twice that peak to peak.... thats why it apears to move so much... your right though it is only moving 18mm off neutral position. my type R's used to look like they where moving a ton at high SPL but had less xmax then that,. Chronos danielm87 on 02/17/2005 20:31:48 alright thanks P0werLifter on 02/17/2005 22:44:38 Ur XmaX might be 18mm, but the Xmech is more like 27mm danielm87 on 02/18/2005 17:28:45 Okay Thankya PL Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
