CD recording affecting bass distortion

Can a CD be recorded with too much bass?

A while back, I was having trouble with my 8" Kicker subwoofer distorting on bass notes. I tried it with a Chevelle CD only though.

I finally just turned the bass on the HU down to +1 only. It's been that way for about 3 weeks. Then the other day, I put in a Disturbed CD for the first time in forever and the bass was just fine, but not enough. So I discovered that I could safely turn the bass all the way up to +4 with no distortion from the sub. The 4" speakers in my dash distort there though so I dropped it down again to +3. It plays fine there with about 1/2 dozen CD's I tried.

All except Chevelle. Any Chevelle CD causes severe distortion until it's turned down to +1 again.

Does Chevelle have too much bass or what? Or would a 10 or 12 sub handle this and sound great with the rest too on like +3 or +4 setting.

every CD is mixed differnt deastie boys "License to Ill" is incredibly quite, and the new cypryss hill cd is really loud... i constanyl adjust my bass and treble boost from +2 to -2

you should never turn your boost up past 3 and even then 3 is too much... every +1 db of boost is adding clipping and distortion to the sound...
