PowerLifter's got him beat.....heh...

That guy has a hideous van with hideous subs.

I'd take PL's system over that ANY DAY.

My dream system would be two 15" Brahma's & 2 XXX 15"s in four separate ported boxes, around 5-10CF each, fed by 4 orion amps, in the back of an excursion....still having plenty of room for the kids!
No b/s either!! I'm gonna have that system after i buy an excursion next year.

Surely that would be above 170....far, far above 170....
I've got one 15" Brahma, no excursion, no orion amps, or the other subs, but i will one day!.

yeah i'm sure your kids would appreciate that!!

that van is excellent, shows how much work goes into the upper end SPL competitions.

"That guy has a hideous van with hideous subs."

are you kidding me?? Thats an amazing setup...shows the amount of work it takes to bring in numbers like 170+

"Surely that would be above 170....far, far above 170...."

Getting anywhere near 170db is extremely hard, its going to take more then 4 subs and 4 amps.....

uochronos on 02/17/2005 17:02:52
there is little to no cahnce of hitting 170db with 4 orions and 4 15" subs you listed...

PL is only hitting around 150 with one and you only gain maybe 3db per sub added if they are the same subs so your talking maybe hitting 155db with the setup you mentioned above maybe 160..

Liking that competition van setup is a matter of opinion and i stated mine. Sheesh.

Okay Chronos maybe i exaggerated a little bit, but by God, 2 brahmas and 2 XXXs would be loud as hell.

I think that adding each sub, for example the 15" XXX in an 8 cubic foot ported enclosure with 1600 wattsrms.....is definitely going to add more than 3 whimpy decibels to the system.

Yall got me wrong about that comp. van.
I respect all the work and money that went into it, its pretty cool.

uochronos on 02/17/2005 20:28:17
nope... 1 XXX in a 8 foot enclosure is say 145db a second XXX with a 8 cubic foot box and the same power well add about 3db.... thats why its hard to hit huge numbers....

4 decibels....take it or leave it
lol

Chronos is right here, Hitting Huge numbers like that takes alot more time, effort, money, and patience than most have to accomplish a task such as that.

If it was as simple as throwing in 4 15's in a wall and throwing some power to em, Everyone and their mother would be hitting astounding numbers such as 178dB.

For SPL you have to factor in a number of different things, and experiment a bunch with different setups, different equipment, different wattage etc. Adding a woofer only adds +3db and doubling the wattage only adds +3db. This is why so much wattage goes towards SPL competitions. Pumping huge amounts of power through a subwoofer for very short burps maximizes the output while taking the woofer to its max potential. The rest comes down to the enclosure, resonance of the vehicle, impendance etc.

I know someone who has 2 15" brahmas in a Civic Sedan hitting 158.9dB's at comps. That took alot of time, money, and dedication to hit that.

Myself, im learning and still on my way to hitting huge numbers, start out small, learn the ropes, and slowly progress up the ladder, Cant expect to just start out on top.

PS. That system is amazing, Much like what i plan to run in the figure only in an AstroVan (they look better in my opinion)

See ya n the lanes

well with a setup like mine, in the blaupunkt demo car i got ,
It hits 145+ with 2 x 12" horn loaded bandpass running at 500wrms each,
kind of enclosure, cabin gain, resonance of the vehicle, the electrical system , the amplifiers the materials used in the interiors of the car, and the list goes on,.,, so many things are to be factored in while makin an SPL vehicle.. its tough..

There is a guy at my shop that is good with high spl vehicles. He knows how to build a good box. All the reinforcing that van did to get those numbers would scare most people away. All I could think when I saw the batteries was that I would have hated to make all the connections. Two wires each battery, two ends per wire.......

MrBrownstone on 02/21/2005 13:00:11
Amazing how much money a person can waste on a system they can't listen to. Kinda like owning a vintage/collector's car that you don't drive.

All that just to brag who's the loudest. You won. What? I said you WON. WHAT!?!

Never mind.
