I have gone through 3 head units and 4 amps an my amp keeps shutting off every time the bass hits. I have a solid remote wire feeding to the amp but i think the amp ground wire may not be grounded well. I have an 80-amp big-blade type fuse on the power wire about 8-inches from the bettery. Why does the amp continuosly shut-off? Replies (3) Buickman94 on 07/4/2003 16:39:29 What kind of amp is it, what kind of subs do have, how are they wired. post all of the information you have, ie impedence on the subs and specs on the amp. Swez on 07/4/2003 16:34:56 Well, tell us more about your amp and subs... make, model #, wire gage used and how are the sub wired to your amp? It sounds like you may have a problem with too low an impedence to your sub amp. This is especially true in bridged 2 channel amps that are not High Current models. Say more.... Best way to ground your amp, is to get some sandpaper, sand off a circle the size of a quarter to bare metal. (trunk floor pan or fender well) Then, depending on the wire gage used, can either use a #10/12 x3/4" self-tapping sheet metal screw. Drive it right into the center of that circle and use an eye type crimp connector. (good for up to #8 gage wires) A small pilot hole (1/8") will help start the screw Once all is tight and secure, smear some silicone over the terminal and bare metal to prevent rust. If you have very large wire for grounding, use a 1/4" x 20 x 3/4" bolt, washer and nylon insert cap nut. Just make sure you know what is on the other side of the floor pan or fender well as you drill your 1/4" hole. Don't want to drill a hole into your gas tank, fuel lines or brake lines. Swez Castor on 07/6/2003 18:06:45 I have a Pioneer 760 watt amp pushing (or trying to push) two Lightning Audio 15" Bolt subs. I have the woofers bridged because one of the channels on the amp is out. The woofers are 4ohm and the amp is also bridgeable down to 2ohms. I have it mounted upside down in the trunk and sometimes when I turn a corner the amp shuts off then comes back on. The speakers are wired in "series" formation and the power and ground wires to the amp are 8 gauge with an 80 amp big-blade fuse on the power wire. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
