i'm trying to help a friend install an amp on his stock radio. he has a 2003 subaru imprezza wrx. how do i hook up stock radio to amp? the stock radio does not have the rca cables, and how do i take care ot the amp remote line? thanks. Replies (2) gearhead on 02/14/2005 15:34:58 I just ran the HU speaker wires to their respective terminals on the amp (my amp has high level inputs). If you can find a schematic for the radio, see if it has an electric antenna wire, or a pin for one. My HU dodn't have the wire in the plug because my model car wasn't available with an electric antenna, but the pin for the electric antenna was in the HU. I just took a terminal/wire from a spare plug i had, and put it in the plug in my car. Works fine. Pinch on 02/14/2005 16:12:02 Several manufacturers make a piece I know as a "line out converter" which uses speaker-level outputs from a stock radio to provide low-level RCA outputs you can connect to your amp. The wires on the converter are often color coded to make it easy. For example, there may be 4 wires on one side (White and White/Black; Grey and Grey/Black) which you would connect as if they were going to speakers, and a left and right RCA output on the other side, which you would connect to your amplifier. As for the remote turn on wire, find an accessory wire behind the radio to turn the amp on. True, the power antenna wire will turn the amp on as gearhead mentioned, but it won't work unless you are listening to the actual AM/FM radio. If you switch to CD, the pwr. antenna wire will go from +12 V to GND and turn the amp off.
