PowerLifter, curious if you ever happened to stumble across a Brahma in any competitions. A fully equipped brahma might blow that XXX of yours to dust....or would it? :P I just bought a 15" Brahma Mark 2 (Brand New) for 420 dollars from my cousin. He bought it for his little nissan pickup and he didnt know how to build a box, so he sold it to me. What an idiot!!! Lucky me. I'm goin down to pick it up on Saturday!! In a 4 CF ported box tuned to 28Hz (largest i can fit in the truck)..w/1000RMS watts...what kinda numbers am i gonna be looking at? Would my Brahma fend off a couple of 12W7s, or maybe anything that Kicker, MTX, or Audiobahn has to offer? My poor truck! i'm afraid the panels are gonna be too old to handle the vibrations and they might rattle apart. 29mm XmaX..... and i thought my Bahn AW1206T's 18mm XmaX was impressive. Check out the videos. http://www.adireaudio.com/Files/ScottieJBrahmasBreakingDoors.wmv http://www.adireaudio.com/Files/B12Porn.AVI The second link shows the sub outside a box moving ridiculously.......I dont think i'm gonna be able to go to sleep tonight, i cant wait to get that sub ready to pound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the heck is the surround made out of ?? WAHOO... Replies (4) uochronos on 02/11/2005 02:43:29 actualy PL bought the XXX because it has mroe Xmax and a few other better traits for SPL... he very carefully compared the 2.... the Brahma is more a SQL sub and the XXX is leaning towards a more SPL oreinted sub.. they both work off the same basic motor structure... just the XXX is more geared to SPL output.. for loud and clear i would choose a brahma for SPL i would go XXX. Great score though.... assumeing it is new which hopefully your cousin would be honest:) i'm saving for a brahma 12" currently. great subs. Chronos P0werLifter on 02/11/2005 03:47:31 "A fully equipped brahma might blow that XXX of yours to dust...." Not exactly the best way to come outa the gate to get on my good side there daniel. And no, a Brahma will not blow my XXX out of the water by any means. What you need to understand is Both drivers here utilize XBL^2 motor structure and both drivers are very similar. I chose the XXX for the looks and a few other things such as a higher XmaX value (not by much), athestics, and among other little things. In SPL its about utilizing every little dB gain you can get out of the driver, enclosure, and cabin (this is where experimentation, experience, and alot of research comes into play). It is impossible for me to tell you what kind of numbers you will put up with the setup you listed. To many factors here but ill guestimate mid to high 130s maybe 140s if you take your time, do the math, and listen to others who've done it for a while. Also keep in mind both of these woofers are SQL based drivers. Meaning they can get loud and stay clean, they both will put good numbers on the meter but they arnt designed to be a pure SPL driver like Resonant Engineerings MT series, Digitial Designs 9500series, and other brands out there that have earned the ranks in the dB drags. Im just getting started in the dB drags, eventually the setup i want to run is 2 RE MT 18's with 4 Orion 2500d's running 10000watts + @ 1ohm or lower (ill have to mod the amplifier most likely) in a wall setup within a hatchback or a AstroVan. In the future obviously but im on my way. Nice sub choice, you'll be happy with it, just make sure you take your time and dont take short cuts....See you in the Lanes....maybe -PL Victor on 02/11/2005 06:41:30 I think the kind of subs we are talking about here are not much different form each other... To win the battle, one has to concentrate a lot on the vehicle's acoustics, enclosure type and fabrication, amplification and other installation techniques. A 12" RE-XXX can out perform a badly installed 15"Brahma even on its worst days.. So like most of us say, you have done your smartest on selecting a wonderful SPL sub, but the real smartness lies ahead in installing it to get the most out of it. Congrats on your new purchase, and wish you the best luck to get the most out of it, If properly installed I am sure you can kick any other sub in its a$$.COFFEE Victor.. danielm87 on 02/11/2005 08:27:07 Hey thanks guys, i'll do my best not to let a good install go to waste with that sub. Ya he's sure that its the new Mark 2, theres an authorized dealer where he lives. AHH PowerLifter, you took what i said wrong... "might blow that XXX of yours to dust....or would it?"... The "or would it" meant that it probably WOULDNT.....hehe.... I've heard XXXs, and i couldnt imagine anything other than a couple other XXXs being louder. Adire likes to label the Brahma as a serious SQ sub and a very moderate SPL sub. PL's XXX, with a larger enclosure in surely a bigger vehicle environment than my reg. cab truck, is gonna be bangin a tad harder than my Brahma. I'm thinking about using a JL Audio 1000/1 amplifier to push it, a little underpowered, but the ALT is a 180amp and i dont want to take risks to hurt it. What do yall think about my amp choice? Any other brand of 1000 rms mono amp that's better? Cant wait for the project....maybe i'll find an Astro Van and start doin comps..... it could happen. :) Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
