FAT TUESDAY Ok guys, the reason i'm starting a new one is cuz the other two of mine were gettin kinda long and outta hand, but It makes sense to leave em up so others can gain knowledge. So I guess the questions I would like answered would be, what are some good 4'' to go up front? And then after I install the stuff which i bought and will receive wednesday (4'' and HU), I will decide whether or not I want/need the CDT 6.5'' Comps. Thanks My Current Setup : 4'' : JBL GTO426 2-way Speakers (Coax) H/U: Pioneer DEH-P3700MP CD/MP3/WWA Receiver 6.5'': Sony EXS-something, I dunno and I don't wanna go find the box right now, I might edit it. Point is, they are older. Subwoofer: N/A Amp:N/A Replies (24) danielm87 on 02/8/2005 19:45:30 Just FYI....Its called a "post" or a "thread". You mislead everyone that read your post title. Hey im not sure bout those 4"s but someone else will have a good suggestion. Have a nice day. Daniel Mr._Miyagi on 02/8/2005 19:50:04 k i changed it, i'm so sorry...Jerk uochronos on 02/8/2005 20:06:15 umm hey daniel he didnt do anything wrong there and i certainly wasnt mis lead by it..... maybe you should calm down a little bit. at the very least if you think somone is doing something wrong be courteous to them. i think the original title of his thread wasnt at all confuseing considering his other threads where about. Chronos PS Miyagi i looked for some 4" comes for you the only ones i could find where by CDT and where over 200$ i well keepm looking but it looks like good coaxils well have to do unless you wanna make a bigger hole... Mr._Miyagi on 02/8/2005 20:25:20 aight thaks chronos. My Bad Dan, i'm sorry for real, caught me at a bad time, still, sorry. danielm87 on 02/8/2005 21:35:10 Never meant anything by it, just tellin him that he could call it a thread or a post instead of a forum. I didnt have the answer to his question but i did have a small and maybe useless comment but i made the decision to put it. its changed now anyways. People are gettin too emotional these days. How about we start looking for answers about those 4"s and the components he asked about. SHEEEEEEEEEEEESH -Daniel- audeogod on 02/8/2005 21:52:28 I've seen 4" comps on ebay, some were reputable brands. I didn't pay too much attention to them since I was looking for 6.5's instead. Mostly discovered them by accident when I click on an auction for 6.5's and then click "see seller's other sales". Check out auctions by "audiosavings". They might be the ones I seen them under. They seemed to have some good comps by Phoenix Gold, and some good prices on a lot of good stuff. They sell some cheap worthless stuff too like Pyramid and Legacy, but they also have Rockford Fosgate and Phoenix Gold, and Kicker. Mr._Miyagi on 02/8/2005 21:59:23 aight thanks Mr._Miyagi on 02/8/2005 22:12:52 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14938&item=5748584658&rd=1 are those any good? Cadence? Mr._Miyagi on 02/8/2005 22:19:19 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14938&item=5749613677&rd=1 or those, I cant tell if they are comp or coax by the discription Mr._Miyagi on 02/8/2005 22:22:53 hey guys, I'm starting to think that unless one of you guys finds a great set for the same or less then what I already paid for for the fronts, i'll just stick with what I have, Thanks. Miyagi P.S. I spent 80 on the fronts Mr._Miyagi on 02/8/2005 22:23:53 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14938&item=5749155815&rd=1 or how are these? Mr._Miyagi on 02/8/2005 22:28:56 or these http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18800&item=5750297838&rd=1 audeogod on 02/8/2005 23:16:13 The cadence looked pretty good for only 9.99 plus S & H. They are coaxials, but can be bi-amped(use two amps, one for woofer, one for tweeters) like components can. Cadence is supposed to be nice from what I've heard and seen, but I've never owned any. Still 9.99 seems dirt cheap for them. The Kickers did not have a picture and I couldn't tell either if it was a comp or coax. You can try the website, or do another search on the internet using the model number K40, and see what you find. Kicker is a good brand. The CDT's looked good, but I don't know anything about this company other that what other people say, and they say they are good. They didn't look good enough to me to pay the $49.95 for them though. The Rockford Fosgates would already be on their way to my house if I was looking for a 4" comp set though. Shipping and all, it would only be 90.00 at the price it currently is at. This is the one that gets my vote. Mr._Miyagi on 02/8/2005 23:23:36 Thanks for the advice audeo, I like those also, and I'm not just tryin to figure out how to get around ebay cuz i cant use it...any ideas? other folks, what do you think? Rockford Fosgates? uochronos on 02/8/2005 23:46:32 I like Rockford Fosgate they had some rough times in the late 90's there stuff was still good but other companies where comeing out with better and they droped in quality a bit. but they are coming back well and they never released antyhing that was garbage... as for the ones you listed about none of them looked bad but i think the coaxils you have would be as good as many of those.. chances are even if your buying them on ebay if they are selling fro 9.99 your not going to get soemthing worht too much more then that... cadance makes some very nigh end drivers from what i have heard(dont qoute me) but the ones listed where not too impressive.. i suggest let the ones you already bought arive and take a listen if you might really really like them... if thats the case why upgrade them? maybe get a decent set of 6.5's for the rear coaxils... and then get a modest say 40-50 Wrms amp for the 4 main speakers can find one for under 100$ and that well bring it all to life and add some depth. Chronos audeogod on 02/9/2005 08:08:04 Hey Miagi, how come you want 4" components to go with 4" coaxials? Are these both going in the front and the 6.5's in the rear? You may have already said, but I didn't read every single post on the other thread you had going. Sorry. I was busy posting questions of my own then. By the time I was done, that thread was over 40 posts long so I didn't go back and read it all. audeogod on 02/9/2005 08:09:15 Or maybe you were talking about changing out the coaxials for the components instead. That makes more sense now. Mr._Miyagi on 02/9/2005 09:57:03 So Chronos, do you think I should get those CDTs I was talkin bout or just get some coaxs instead? As for the amp, if I know that I want a subwoofer, should I purchase an amp with more power? What would you suggest in terms of brands and models for Amps, thats something I have absolutely no knowledge about for sure. Thanks Mr._Miyagi on 02/9/2005 22:56:44 Well, this afternoon I got my stuff, but when I was tryin to unscrew everything, one of the screws was stripped. Eventually using brute strength I pulled off the old head unit (very bad move, I got frustrated...) and then when all that was done, I was unplugging the wires from the back of the old HU, and all was going fine until...Another stripped screw! This one wasnt it a way that I could wedge it off, so I just cut the wire, I hope it doesnt come back to bite me in the hiney...though I suspect it will. I'm pretty sure it wasnt the antenna, cuz I think the antenna one is like a headphone jack lookin thing, it was just a single wire, probably looped at the end around a screw. Any thoughts? should I just try the install and hope it works? Mr._Miyagi on 02/9/2005 23:37:11 I'm just about to give up...these instructions don't make any sense...I dont get it at all... uochronos on 02/10/2005 02:39:38 my advise is calm down... and take a breather... tell us excatly what doesnt make since but dont do it while your stressed at all any stress during an install just makes it harder... we can walk you threw steop by step but we need to know where your at and whats wrong. btw the wire you cut sounds like a ground but i'm not 100% sure if it was no problem then because you should run a ground to the fire wall anyway. the attenna is the jack looking plug Chronos Mr._Miyagi on 02/10/2005 08:45:13 Alright so Here is where I'm at right now. I have removed the old head unit, and now I need to connect the wires from the new HU to the wire harness adapter thing. I think I figured that step out, except that one of the wires from the HU, which looks like one of those wires you connect to the speakers, has nowhere to go. I believe it has something to do with the remote control or something, it had a tag on it that said remote something...sorry for the patchy info, I have to get to school, but i'll get somemore detail on this, this afternoon. montego_27 on 02/10/2005 09:16:06 That wire (which is usually blue) would go to the "REM" terminal on an amp, which in this case I think you said is N/A.What it does is when you turn your HU on,it relays that to the amp and also turns that on.So in addition to the power lead from your amp to the battery it also has this "REMOTE" lead so your amp doesn't continually stay on, thus draining your battery.Just cap it w/ a closed end butt connector, because when you turn your HU on this is"live". Hope this helps ,Tego Mr._Miyagi on 02/10/2005 09:52:00 Yeah that helps a lot, thanks. Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
