While reading over my Pioneer DEH-15 owners manual, curiosity struck me when the S.L.A. adjustment page came up. After tuning the amp gain to the HU output, i left all the HU specialties&EQ off. - Today i discovered that within the -4__to__+4 range on the S.L.A., i could safely turn it up to +3 at 75% volume, but ended up keeping it on zero until i learned more. - Is there any risk of clipping or sub damage, distortion, anything to that degree when playing with this feature? Hope yall can help, Thanks. CLAP PROUD Daniel Replies (4) audeogod on 02/4/2005 01:05:31 I would think that turning it up would be about the same as turning up the volume, in which case, I'd expect there to be a possibility to clip if it was too loud. I leave mine at zero(I have a DEH-P41). All it's supposed to be for is making the CD player volume and the radio tuner's volume match so when you change from one to the other, it doesn't blow you out of the car. But I hardly listen to the radio and when I do, I just turn up the volume. I would have to turn my SLA down to match the radio, and for some strange reason, I just could not bring myself to take away audio signal from my CD player function. Probably wouldn't hurt it any, but that's just me. danielm87 on 02/4/2005 12:59:56 Golds got anything to say? compvr15s on 02/4/2005 14:58:39 hes correct. it is there just to match match volumes from once source to another, will cd quality is alot higher than radio this is why there is a down volume affect changing from cd to radio.. i have priemer deh750 and have had previous pioneers with this function. i always left it at zero, mostly for the fact i never listened to the radio.. turnin it up will increase the chance of clipping since its sending a higher power signal to ur amps. so if ur playin a song that is low in some spots and then pretty loud in others this make be a problem, could send lots of clipping signals to your amps. IMHO id leave it at zero and maybe bump up your eq a lil bit or just adjust the volume. no need to ruin ur nice equipent just for a lil louder music. good luck danielm87 on 02/4/2005 15:22:39 Thanks, I decided to leave it at 0. However, it DOES make the sub a tad louder, without any realistic distortion at all. I dont see the need to leave it on, and my sub is grabbing around 120-130Db, plenty for me. I've had a slight problem with it today if some of yall dont mind checking the board for that post. < Daniel > Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
