found out which sub, now which amp???

ok, so i found out exactly what sub i'm going to be getting. it's a alpine type-s, sws-1241 svc. it can handle 200watts rms @ 4 ohm. okay, so my options for an amp are as follows...

rf 201s 200w rms @ 4ohms
rf 300s 300w rms @ 4ohms
sony 1002hx 280w rms @ 4ohms

the reason i picked these is that they would all cost me about the same, between 80-90bux CDN used. the thing i am worried about is that the later two amps produce much more watts than the sub can handle, but as you guys lectured me before, i should look for an amp that provides 33-50% more watts rms than the sub can handle. is 300w rms or 280w rms too much and dangerous for the sub?

which amp would u guys choose for this particular sub? thank you!

The RF300s would be my choice 300watts with proper gain and boost settings well be perfect.

i wouldnt buy a used sony... if you can get a new one cheap they are ok amps but i wouldnt trust a used one... RF makes very sturdy amps and i would personaly go with the rf300s.

ahh, so 300watts wouldn't be too much since the sub can only handle 200watts?

what do u mean by 'proper gain and boost settings' uchronos?

thank you

the gain on the amp should be set to the same voltage as your RCA preouts from the head unit... refer to your manual to get that number.

and bass boost on the amp shouldnt be on and if you insit shouldnt be bast 2db of boost.

no 300watts well not hurt this sub... as long as your not abusing it... now if you plan to constantly play it at more then 75% volume 300 might stress it a bit... but most people listen to it loudly at 40-60% volume usualy...

I agree with Chronos on this one. Id go with the RF 300s. 300watts wouldnt hurt this sub neccessarily. Many subs can handle more than their reccomended RMS wattage as long as its clean undistorted power being fed to the subwoofer.

Subwoofers that are fed clipped signals will poop out on you in no time.

okay uochronos, so i'm looking at the head unit specs rite now and i cannot find anything about rca preouts. maybe it's listed under another classification? what's the unit for gain?

powerlifter, how would i assure that clean power is being fed to the subwoofer?

thank you, ya'all been a great help

if your over stressing an amp you get a less clean signal... lets say instead of 200watt amp you used a 50watt amp the amp would work really hard and with the boosts set higher you well get an unclean signal... now with a 300wat amp you have 100watt head room so it well never be stressed to its limits getting a clean signal.

as for RCA's it should sau preouts or RCA outs somewhere and have a voltage like 2volts or 5 volts etc.

whats your HU i can look it up.

ok nice, so it should be a clean signal coming from the amp to the sub in this setup

looks for preouts and rca preouts, couldn't find anything
headunit is - jvc kd-sx990

thanx
