i'm working on kick panels as it's well known it presents the best sound imagning than standerd speakers at the doors ... but i saw other extra placements for speakers which was custum made ....here's the link : http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/577223/5 ( NOTE: i own the same car on the web page ) i was thinking rather then cutting down the dash is to make a custom fiberglass which can hold the speakers and so i can aim them towords me ... what i know the fronts are more important than the rears because the closer the speakers to the ears the better SQ i get ... or you guys recommed to use the rears like 6x9 .. will it be better or what .. many thanks Replies (6) audeogod on 02/3/2005 20:44:33 Why kickpanels are better is that they are in front creating a sound stage like if you were at a concert. They are about(as close as you can get anyway) equal distances from your ears so that one speaker isn't overly brighter than the other one. If they were in the dash, then the one on the driver's side would be noticably brighter than the other one. I have dash speakers and it's really noticeable, trust me on this one. They aren't even aimed at me. If they were, it would even be worse. They make devices to delay the response of speakers to kind of even this out. I remember reading about them. Don't know how expensive they are, or even how to use one cause I've not had the experience with it. I just faded down my dash speakers, and installed door speakers to suppliment them. I would have loved to had kickpanels instead. I tried every way in the world positioning my speakers before I mounted them, and the kickpanels produced the best overall sound of all. But it was impossible for me cause of the emergency brake pedal location. Would have hit the one on the driver's side. I didn't have the time to make them anyway. But kicks are well worth the time if you can do it. Way the best speaker location for the front. I will check out your link now. The above is a general car audio statement based on the overall best sound locations for most vehicles. Not based on any one car. uochronos on 02/3/2005 20:52:59 in a larger car custom dash mounts could be as good as a set of kick panels i would think.... but kicks are way simpler and well net great results. audeogod on 02/3/2005 20:55:49 A little more about that sound delay since I just noticed that I didn't explain it that well. It's so that the sound of the farthest speaker reaches your ear at the same time as the one that's closer. The closest one gets the sound delay. That's about all I know about it though. That link you put up looks like that guy did a pretty good job on installing his dash speakers. It was in a foreign language so I couldn't read any of it, but the pics were nice. If you have a dash like what's in my wife's car, you could possibly do what your idea was and get a similar effect as in kicks. She has a Chrysler Cirrus, 98 model, and the dash is deep. Over 4 feet from my sitting position to where the dash meets the windshield. I can't extend my arm and be able to touch it without leaning foward. Don't know how your car is made cause the pics of it on that link were mostly close ups of the speaker install. Couldn't get a good look but it looked like it would be pretty short compared to my wife's car. My truck on the other hand is a pretty short dash too. That's why my dash speakers are not the best location as I previously described. audeogod on 02/3/2005 20:59:04 Well, hey Chronos. Didn't know you were in here. Like you said, larger cars could get away with this dash speaker location. My wife's car for instance. It's not overly large, but the dash is DEEP. audeogod on 02/3/2005 21:48:36 Hey only_tuning, I got a question for you. You said your car was the same model of the one in your link. Did you go to that website and do some kind of a search to find cars like yours with installs done to them? I've been looking for ideas for my cars and truck and would love to see some of the same models with anything from just factory replacement installs all the way up to custom set ups and don't know where to look. I've done searches on the internet search engines to see what I could find but I haven't come up with anything yet. If you have some idea of how I could find other cars like mine to see pictures of what they did to them, I'd like to know. Thank you. only_tuning on 02/5/2005 01:49:11 thanks for your concern ... yes just go to : www.cardomain.com then click : search rides put the name of your ride you'll find cool stuff over there ...
