I am trying to connect my receiver, but it won't turn on. The factory harness I am supposed to connect to the new receiver harness is blown out because the internal stereo is fried. Is there any other way to power a cd player without using the factory harness? Replies (12) uochronos on 02/1/2005 02:13:35 sure... however how is the factory harness hurt? because really its alot easier to use that... anyway though... you can run a constant power wire right from the battery.. and you can tap into a ignition on power at the fuse box.. you should also always ground directly to the body or firewall of the car. Chronos chirikos39 on 02/1/2005 15:12:37 Is that safe? Will that destroy anything? Anyways, where would you connect the power wire to the cd player? The cd player contains a harness with a bunch of wires. How would I connect all those wires (speakers, power, ignition)? Before, it all went to the factory harness, but since that's useless, I need to find a place for all these wires. I went to Car Toys and they said the factory stereo is blown out, and from now on, there will always need to be an external amp to power the cd player. I don't know how it fried. How would you go about tapping into a ignition on power at the fuse box? What kind of wire would you use, and where would you connect that to the cd player? uochronos on 02/1/2005 16:56:19 wait you mean the cd player your trying to insatll is blown??? if you fried the internal amp in the cd player then its useless without buying outbaord amps... if the HU itself is fried then its time to get a new one.... and no running a new power wire and ignition wire is perfectly saf just make sure its fused... Chronos chirikos39 on 02/1/2005 17:36:42 The cd player is fine. Car Toys tested it out. What doesn't work is whatever is connected to the factory harness (the internal stereo?). You know, you connect the harness of your cd player to the harness that comes with the car. Whatever that harness is connected to is toast, Car toys said so. What is the HU? How would I connect the new power wire and ignition wire to the cd player? by the way, thanks a bunch!! uochronos on 02/1/2005 18:16:32 umm your not making sense to me.... the CD player is what puts out the sound not the harness... teh harness is just wires that run to the speakers and the power supply... you cant blow a harness... i cant seem to figure out what exactly you have wrong here.. do you see what i mean... there is no internal stereo the HU(the cd or tape deck) puts out all the sound not the harness... i wouldnt run a new power wire to it till we figure out what is wrong here.. btw cartoys is there to make money meaning they want to install it for you... they have flat given me bad advise before and have told me i was wrong when i knew i was right... not that some of them dont know there stuff but be leary of taking all they say at face value. Chronos chirikos39 on 02/1/2005 19:25:57 Ok. Maybe you are right because i don't know where the factory harness leads to. Ok, well I can't get power to the cd player (and I know it still works, cartoys tested it) by plugging it to the car's harness, because something doesn't work, so I have to find another source of power. I also need to find a way to connect all the cd player wires to something else other than the wires connected to the factory harness. I see what you mean. I know the harness itself is now blown, but where does it lead to to get power? You said, "the harness is just wires that run to the speakers and the power supply." What's the power supply? That must be what's not working. So either i can fix that or find a new source of power. Adam uochronos on 02/1/2005 19:44:43 it just runs to the fuse box and from there to the battery... is your fuse blown? many cars have like 3 or 4 fuses that effect the stereo... check them all... my truck has 3 differnt fuses for the stereo.. honestly the stock harness with an adaptor should wire strieght to the HU... and no problem... maybe one of the others here well have an idea tonight,,, i'm sort of stumped.. without seeing it i cant tell you much more from my knowledge... Chronos chirikos39 on 02/1/2005 19:48:45 I'll check the fuses. The only one I've checked is the radio/clock fuse, and it's fine. That's the only one on the list that seems to power the stereo. maybe my amp is blown? the fuse on the amp is fine, but maybe it's something else in the amp. uochronos on 02/1/2005 19:56:18 you have an amp??? hehe thats some info that was left out or i missed... however the amplifier wont have anything to do with the HU turning on.... the hu is what turns the amp on.... Chronos.. i suggest checking all the fuses that might have soemthing to do with it... also check the fuse on the back of the deck as well. also some HU's have a inline fuse on the power wire... chirikos39 on 02/1/2005 21:01:05 Yes!!! There was a blown fuse on the backup radio fuse. UKinstaller on 02/1/2005 22:36:46 civic's have a fuse labeled backup under the fuse, it's your constant. check that it's probably blown. -UK UKinstaller on 02/1/2005 22:37:08 oh whoops looks like you already got that. nevermind!! -UK Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
