Well, I tried to apply to use the chat room and successfully registered, but apparently I put in a password by accident that I now do not know what it was. How can I change this??
Also, how can I get one of those GOLD medals?? I read the requirements, and all of those fit me well. As an added bonus, I too was around in the days when this forum was just a message board without a login and password. I liked it back then, but some people screwed that all up with stupid posts. That was about 3 or 4 forums ago.

And believe me.. even the golds are not the final authority in car audio.. or for that matter "There is always place at the top"..
every gold around here on CK has some or the other speciality.. and when it comes to that we take his word to be the final one..
and a gold is available only on the special recommendation from a present gold, and after discussing on it with other golds and the admin can a gold be awarded to you.

After posting this request for a Gold, I had second thoughts. Here's a little about that.
Recently on another website, I have had bad experiences with those who have "platinum" status, which is your equivalent to a Gold here. Even from the forum moderator, of all people, which was much to my surprise. I always thought a moderator was supposed to set and example to others and be sort of like a site governor to prevent unwanted blasting of others and walking on people's feelings.
Anyway, these people thought that since they had the power and others were only newbies that they knew more. And maybe they did, but not all newbies to a site are newbies to the field. So a lot of disrespect was flying around. All you have to do is mention a brand name that they don't like, and you get slapped down for even bringing it up. The whole thing made me sick.
So I thought I would make a clean break, and come back here to get away from all that. I figured that since I had been here off and on for several years, that I would just be wecomed into the fold. But later on that night, I started thinking. Even though I asked for a Gold, I regretted it. It was just a feeling.....get it??
I can't really explain it other than to say that I think I would prefer to make a political statement by offering help and the benefit of my experiences and knowledge without accepting any of the glory from it. I really just want to help people. That's where the glory is for me. I just love this field and all it has to offer. I enjoy talking about this stuff in general. When there is no one asking for help, I'll sometimes start thinking about new ideas and theories and just throw up a post to get the ball rolling in some way, like my "OK here it is..." post.
Having said that, let me also say that I mean no disrespect for this site or anyone holding a Gold status here. I have also always said that I know I can come to this site and get the help or conversation I desire with no attitudes and such to go with it. Without getting too mushy, let me say that it's kind of like a feeling that a person has friends here. Not just people to bounce ideas off of. When you talk to people for awhile and share ideas, you kind of feel like you know them a little bit, and then when someone slaps you down, it makes you mad. I don't get any of that on this site. I always get polite, direct answers when I post a topic, no matter how someone may feel personally about that topic. You all really do deserve the Gold status you hold. Not only for car audio accuracy, but for friendlyness and respect as well.

The Gold thing is really just a recognition of ones willingness to serve others and help them get to their goals. We keep it clean here too. Ever seen a post with foul language last very long on the site? Nope! Not allowed as we do enforce that aspect closely. Why do you think Golds are called "Audio Evangelists"? We spread the good news about car audio to all all who come for help.
Finally, Golds have expertise in many areas. Some are Pro installers, excellent cabinate makers, research many products for best fit, performance and best pricing we can find. Some have a very good understanding of 12 volt products and can do the math to make a system perform at it's best or avoid over loading electrical systems. If you can find a niche in this forum and help others as they learn, you will become a Gold too.
