Has anyone been able to get a 5 1/2 component into a 4x6 space in the dash? 92' Chevy Lumina. Thanks

That's a good question. Can you get to them from the top part of the dash (grill plate cover access) or are these installed under the dash?

Perhaps some care measurments, a custom mounting plate of some sort and a very creative set of hands.... it might be possible. Do you have any pics of the dash that we can review? That, along with some dimensional meaurments, maybe we can come up with a plan.

PS Shoot me an IM on Yahoo and we can discuss it.

most of those cars you have problems getting a 4 x 6" in the spot as the airvents go directly underneath. I would say probably not....

Hummm, based on ttocs comments, your best bet might be to go with 4x6 plate or Componet speakers. They use a 4" woofer, a dome tweeter and some come with LP & HP filters as well.

Depending on amp power and speakers response capability, you can probably get very good Mids/highs from a decent pair of plates and the quality sound of a Comp system. The main question, where to set the LP filter on these smaller format speakers. A good starting point would be say 100 Hz., LPF and move up if too much bass distortion at SPL levels desired.

Crutchfield has a good selection of speakers that will fit in your dash:

As for the rear deck speakers, this is where you should find some good MB to fill in the lower octaves the front speakers cannot handle. The LPF on this size speaker can range from 60-80 Hz and up. Coaxials are a good choice and cheaper than Component style 6.5". Can anticipate better SQL from rounds than ovals too. Just depends on your tastes and budget. If you run 6.5 rounds in back, need to use an adapter plate is all.

PS When ttocs speaks... I listen! He knows his end of the business well and would follow his recommendations. SMILE
