HI there i have posted the same topic befor but i would like to have more help here ... Regarding the kick panel issue i completed 70% of fiberglassing process .. i'm willing to to paint it .. so there's few problem i'm facing right now : 1 . i used polyster to stick the mdf and the fiberglass mold ( 2 layers) so they be as one piece i feel it's not very solid (the polyster). what should i do ..: should i apply more fiberglass in the inner side ... and then apply the (polyfiller . bondo . fiberglass putty) from the out side and sand it .. or should i use the (polyfiller. bondo . fiberglass putty) from the inner side and the out side to make it more sold ... or should i apply fiber glass from the out side like 1 more layer and after than apply ( polyfiller. bondo , fiberglass putty) need help many thanks Replies (5) P0werLifter on 01/29/2005 16:07:49 I'm not exactly sure what ur talking about when you refer to using polyester to stick the MDF and the fiberglass together. Did u soak the polyester in resin and allow it to harden into the shape you wanted and your having problems attaching it to the wood? If this is the case you should add more fiberglass (maybe chopp matt) to the area your having issues connecting to and make sure that it is soaked well and sticks to the surface. Keep in mind that usually, if your going to be implemention MDF into the design you usually do this all at once (IE. Laying the fabric over, stapling or glueing it to the MDF then applying the resin all at once making sure its soaked good). You can also add more resin to the inside of the kicks to keep the outside smooth if you feel its not strong enough only_tuning on 02/1/2005 03:25:21 ok ,, so you suggest to use extra resin and fiber glass matts .. for the inner part of the kick panel to make it more solid .. i was thinking to apply polyfiller also on the inner side after it's dried i apply polyfiller in the inner side again because i red in other fourms that without any of that the speakers will produce a hollow sound and other recommended to use polyfil to increase midbass o fthe speakers . after that i alppy the polyfiller out side to smoothe out the shape of the kick panels ..... then sand it with 80 , 120 , 220 , 320 sandpaper apply primer and then paint it . i'm asking the experts here correct me if i'm wrong plzz many thanx .. P0werLifter on 02/1/2005 13:59:19 Correct, Once the kicks are completed and prior to attaching the Driver, add some polyfill into the rear of the kick. This will help with standing waves and also "fake" the driver into believing its into a larger enclosure giving you stronger midbass. As far as the sanding goes, I usually go 80, 150, 220 , Primer, then sand the primer with 320 or higher to smooth out any roughness within the primer. Then Paint desired colour. This is pretty cricical if your going to be using automotive paint as it will show any little blemish you have so make sure everything is smooth. Other than that you should be go to go. -PL only_tuning on 02/2/2005 04:23:05 so you suggest adding bodyfiller after the kick panels are dried .. or i just put in littel polifill so increase the mid-bass . P0werLifter on 02/2/2005 12:40:25 Your going to need to add Bondo Bodyfiller after the kicks are dried yes then you sand the bodyfiller down smooth...primer..sand..paint Polyfill inside the kickpanel Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
