I have a 1996 Dodge Dakota. I installed a Pioneer Head Unit a couple years back, and everything was working fine. Then i decided to put in a cd changer, but when i tried the front woofers stopped working. Took the changer back out, but still not working. It think that part of the amp has went out or something. Is there a fuse on the amp? Anyways, i recently installed an amp and sub, no problems. Now i want my sound from the front speakers back. I want to bypass the factory amp. Can anyone tell me how to do this and what speaker wire guage to use? Is there a harness for this? Thanks Jason Replies (2) cplkittle on 01/30/2005 17:45:38 I can't remember which type of amplification these used.. some had amplifiers piggybacked on the door speakers, some had a seperate amplifier alltogether. Take the radio out, and use a 9v battery to 'pop' the speakers one at a time. This will not hurt them. If they pop there is not an amp on them, if they don't pop there is an amp.. that is the first step. The second step would be to find the speaker wire colors and compare them to the wire colors behind the HU designated to that speaker.. if they are different, that is another indicator that there is an amplifier. Most of the time if a factory amplifier goes out, it will go out on one side completely, not just the fronts or the rear speakers. You may need to run new wires to each. One question, which speakers went out exactly? are you talking about the door speakers when you say woofers? jsandlin on 01/30/2005 19:15:29 i have read that the front speakers have a woofer and a tweeter. the tweeter isnt powered by the amp. and i can only hear the highs in the front door speakers. I know that there is an amp. It is located on the passanger side (so i read). what type of speaker wire should i use? and is there a harness to bypass it all together? thanks jason Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
