hey guys, as some of u already know i have an alpine amp powering my 4 speakers. i just bought 800 watt mono class d amp and i want to power my subs with it. they are alpine type s 10 inches and the amp is 400 watts rms at 2ohms
anyways
do i run one power wire from batterry, connect it to the positive of my capacitor than connnect the positives of my amps to the cap positive with their own seperate wires. and do i than hook up the negatives of the both amps to the negative on the cap. and from the negative of the cap to my ground spot with a seperate wire? do i need power block? or will this work ? thnks alot for helping me last time

should work connecting both amps to the cap i would imagine..

however a few thinsg to look into... adding this second amp if ytou ahev not upgraded the battery or alt you are probaly going to need to. i'm assuming 400watts rms from this amp and 200+rms from your other amp. the mono amp is going to pull less power but the multi channel is going to pull more power then that. figure maybe 40amps from the class D and another 20-30 from then multicahnnel thats just a guess sicne i dont know spec on either amp but probaly pretty close thats around
60-70amps could be mroe... and you need 50amps to run stock electricals in the car...

that means you well need 120amp alternator to power amps and the car...

get me details on the amps and i can tell you more...

i just bought a brand new battery and so far the alternator has been good, this amp im putting in is a sony xplode 800watt mono d class remote bass control with 19-3/4' cable requires 4-gauge power and ground cables
gold-plated connectors
800 watts MAX x 1 @ 2 ohms
400 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms
low-pass crossover
speaker- and preamp-level inputs
variable bass boost (0-10 dB)
subsonic filter
preamp outputs
011-11/16"W x 2-3/16"H x 11-1/2"D
i drive a 1998 pontiac grand prix. pretty sure it can handle it. but can u tell me what kind of wire i need, i have red stinger wiring that i recently tried to use or i have the black one which i think is the higher gauge but ur telling my i dont need a fuse block than?my other amp is an alpine v10 with 80 watts x 4 its pushing to stock front and 2 infinity 6x9's in the back . can anyone tell me like step by step what i should do, im installing it at home in my garage and i sort of have a clue i just dont know electronics very well
i also must add last time i had 2 amps i had massive alt whine in back speakers, i know about running them away from rcas and still didnt get rid of it. i wonder if it was from tha positive of the cap being too close to the speaker inputs on my alpine or perhaps jsut bad ground of the other amp i had. either way i wanted to make sure that i could ground to the neg of the cap

battery is a good thing you should be good then... no idea what size alternator your car has, but if its lees then a 100amp alternator you are going to have issue and it well end up burning out the alternator if it is stressed out..

running 2 amps wont cause alt whine just make sure you have good grounds and are useing good sets of rcas...

as for amp wire i would say 4 gauge or 2 gauge from the batery to the cap and you can run 8 guage as long as its a short run although 4 would not hurt.

a distrobution block would not hurt at all here but i dont belive its 100% nessicary but would make it a bit easier of an install..

really this should be a strieghht forward simle install..

things to remember is

1 bare metal grounds to the chasis

2 run RCA and power seperate

3 if you split a single set of RCA's to both amps you could get alternator whine.

4 check the rating on your alternator if you have a 70-90 amp alternator yuour going to have long run problems... i suggest in the next 2-4months to get a 150 amp alternator or so if you have a less then 100amp alternator now...

thanx alot chronos, can i get an after market alternator with more juice? im running one set of rcas to the 4 channel amp. obviously splitting 2 into 4 channels while the other set of pre outs is running to the new amp. what are the different colors associated with the different gauges or does the color not matter. i just want to make sure i know which is which gauge

uochronos on 01/29/2005 03:34:20
you can get wire in any color you want... i have blue 2 gauge running to one amp and purple 2 gauge running to another amp... but in general color means nothing... 2 guage is pretty big maybe the size of your thumb 4 gauge is a bit smaller and 8 guage is about the same as your pinky maybe a bit smaller... that should give you a close idea....

ya i got a 200amp alternator off ebay for 215$ shipped... yhou cang et a 150amp alternator for maybe 150$ i can get you the guys name off ebay and you can ask him what he has for your car and house much... if your interested.

PS
on ther rcas your running 1 set of RCA's to the 4 channel adn spliting it into 4? but your sub is going to run off a set of its own RCA's? if so then adding the sub amp isnt going to cause alternator whine... really its best not to run the 4 channel off a single pair of RCA's that splits the voltage so say you have 2volt RCA's you split them and you only have 1 volt RCA's now. should not be a problem unless you hear a whine or distortion.
