i have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 laramie slt quad cab, and i want to fit two subwoofers under the rear seats of my truck. i liked the jl audio's stealthbox but i dont see anything saying if it comes without subwoofers, so for now im interested in trying to fit woofers into mtx thunderforms or proboxrocks, thunderforms are 8.687" x 48" x 17.5" has 1.7 cubic feet and about 5'' mount depth, proboxrocks has 0.70 cu. ft. per side with a mount depth of 6.25''. both can only fit two 10'' subwoofers so its hard to find the right ones but i found some from audiobahn that might do the trick, they're Audiobahn Pro Comp. AWP310T. i already have componant speakers as well, i have 5 1/4's with seperate tweeters in the front and 6x9's in the back. for the amp, i was looking at Audiobahn A6004T. also ill be getting an alpine headunit, not too sure on the model right, most likely it'll be the Alpine CDA-9827. this will be my first system, im want it for sql. would this be the right setup? any suggestions would be appreciated, i found this site by accident and i saw the great advice here reading through the threads(especially from swez) about similar vehicles just not the same setup as what i want. Replies (7) swez on 01/28/2005 08:54:01 Welcome to CK! That Bahn sub mentioned seems to be a good fit for the MTX Thunderform enclosure. Best to keep it sealed (rather than ported) as these subs have a low EBP. (40) The range recommended for sealed for this series is 0.5-1.25 cf/sub per box specs: http://www.audiobahninc.com/frame2004.html Also, mounting depth is going to be a tight fit. May need a 1" trim ring to pull the sub up enough for the air vent to work properly as well. It is generally a good practice to have an air space from the bottom wall that is equal or larger than the vent hole in the magnet. That's why the trim ring may be needed. (adequate cooling) That A6001T amp should be plenty of power for interior speakers. (75 x 4 Wrms @ 4 ohms) Nice HU too. Great features! NOTE: Bahn power specs on speakers are rated in pairs. Meaning, they say 200 Wrms, that's 100 watts per speaker. What amp are you thinking about to power the subs? Need to consider input power demands here as well. The 6004 will draw about 35A at full power. Consider an efficient Class D amp for your subs. If you elect to go with a high wattage amp here, need a pretty strong electrical system to keep everything running smoothly. FYI: We typically need ~50-60A of current to operate the vehicle alone. Add 35A for the 4 channel noted. That's 85-95A of current demand on the ALT/BAT. Depending on the ALT output you have available now, may have to upgrade to a larger ALT/BAT to meet demands for the sub amp you choose. Hope that helps, Swez PS Thanks for the props! USFLAG Swez danielm87 on 01/28/2005 12:20:18 In regards to the Audiobahn AWP312T's, they are very good subwoofers. They come in handy for low-space applications, but i have seen many guys buy them for normal use because they are incredibly boomy and hit low; 6.5" voice coils, 95Db efficiency, a quality cone and surround, and an 18mm XmaX make it a verrry good choice. I have heard several of these subs in sealed boxes and they have BETTER than expected SQ. By far the best i've heard from Audiobahn, because they usually are sought after for SPL. They also have a sadly uncommon feature from Bahn - EPDM RUBBER SURROUNDS! The whole sub in general is not what you'd expect from Bahn, but i am really impressed with the Pro Compression subs. If i could afford them and fit them in my truck, i would own 2 of them. But i cant! Welcome to CK Pedro! The guys here'll take care of ya! < Daniel > danielm87 on 01/28/2005 12:22:49 I apologize, i gave specs for the AWP312T, not the 10". They are about the same. pedrodepacas on 01/28/2005 16:54:19 thank you guys for your replys, i went in today and purchased a different setup as they didnt have an mtx box, so i got a q-logic QLH-1.0010DE that fits two 10'' subwoofers, its a sealed box 14.8x32x8.3 i hope thats the right way to list them, if not i did it by HxWxD its internal volume is 1.0 cu ft. the speakers i got are aw1006t, with the a4004t amp for componants and a8000t for the subwoofers. i also bought the alpine 9831 hu. the box sits on my rear seat a bit of an inconvienance but i can always remove it when i need to. danielm87 on 01/28/2005 18:25:06 Sounds good, the 1.0 CF box should do great with the Sound Q subs, lookin at an EBP of 40, sealed is best. Enjoy your system! pedrodepacas on 01/28/2005 22:00:38 man my system really bumps, only thing is that the installer said i could get it much louder if i had another mono amp, so he said its 75% powered i guess at 2 ohm. its loud but very clear even my dad was surprised at how good it sounded, he made a comment, "some systems only have bass" i only wish they had another a8000t mono in store, so i would have paired them swez on 01/29/2005 11:36:42 High 5's to you Pedro! If the system passed Dad's inspection, I'd say you got it right. How did the installer wire your subs to that amp? (ohmic load) FYI: There is not a huge SPL difference between 500 and 1000 watts of power to a given sub(s). If we double the watts, we get a +3dB increase in SPL. Enough to hear the difference, but not a huge factor. Swez PS The installer may have done you a big favor by wiring subs for less power. Much less current draw on your electricals. ;-) Copyright ClubKnowledge 2009 * All Rights Reserved |
