I dont know much about changers but can they be hooked up to any head unit? if so, how do you go about changing cd's from the head if there are no special buttons? thanks Replies (4) UKinstaller on 01/27/2005 11:25:14 depends. some aftermarket head units have changer controls, but if your head unit doesn't say anywhere on it about changer functions, then you probably can't control it through the head unit. however, you can still hook one up through an fm modulator and it will play out of a radio station. you control it through a remote that the changer comes with. -UK chiliman77 on 02/2/2005 14:24:53 how do you know if your head unit can do this? i have a 97 clarion drb4275 and it is a bit old... will the fm modulator work with this? how can i test it without actually buying one? thanks Crum on 02/2/2005 14:49:54 The FM modulator transmits to a specific FM radio frequency. Your radio will pick up the signal when you tune your FM dial to the modulator's frequency. The plus with a modulator is that it will work on any car that has a working FM radio; the negative is that your CDs play with the clarity of an FM station as opposed to the true clarity of a CD. If the difference in sound quality is a major issue, it may be time to consider upgrading. Crutchfield.com is a great resource for honing in on what HU is right for you. Crum uochronos on 02/2/2005 14:51:38 couldnt find that particular model on clarions web site... hoevere if you have an auxilary control or CD changer control on it.. should be able to get a changer for it... i suggest calling clarion and asking them they well be able to tell you for sure. using an FM modulater well work on any HU that has an FM tuner... which they all do hehe... anyway this well work but you well get FM quality sound not CD quality. to most this wont be that dicernable but there well be a differnce.
